  • Golfsmith promotes Eli Getson to executive VP

    Austin, Texas — Specialty golf retailer Golfsmith International has promoted Eli Getson to executive VP, general merchandising manager. In his new role, Getson will be responsible for all North American merchandising activity across the company's U.S. Golfsmith stores, Canadian Golf Town stores and e-commerce channels for both brands.
     

  • Big 5 Sporting Goods has big first quarter; 15 to 20 new stores planned

    El Segundo, Calif. -- Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. reported upticks in net income, sales and same store sales for first quarter fiscal 2013. Net income grew from $156,000 to $7.5 million.
         
    Net sales were $246.5 million, up from $218.3 million a year earlier, while same-store sales rose 10.5%. First quarter sales improved despite the negative impact of the calendar shift of the Easter holiday, when the retailer’s stores are closed.
           

  • Walmart looks to e-commerce for growth

    New York -- Walmart is emphasizing e-commerce for growth, said Neil Ashe, the chain’s president and CEO of global e-commerce, said during an investor presentation Wednesday morning.

     

  • Guess names Lazear as chief design officer

    Los Angeles – Guess Inc. is appointing Sharleen Ernster Lazear as chief design officer. Lazear will oversee all product categories for the Guess and Marciano brands and report to CEO Paul Marciano.

    She previously served in senior merchandising and design roles for Victoria’s Secret for 13 years, most recently as executive VP of design.

    Los Angeles – Online fashion magazine Who What Wear is launching a new home décor e-commerce site, DomaineHome.com.

    The site functions as an online magazine focused on home décor and decorating with shoppable content.

     

  • Big Lots names Campisi CEO

    Columbus, Ohio -- Discount retailer Big Lots has named David Campisi, 57, as CEO and president of Big Lots, effective May 6. The 30-year-industry veteran most recently served as chairman and CEO of Respect Your Universe, a publicly traded company focused on premium performance apparel and equipment. Prior to that, he was an executive with The Sports Authority for nearly seven years, rising to become chairman and CEO.
