  • RadioShack to sell Barnes & Noble’s Nook

    New York City -- RadioShack will begin selling Barnes & Noble’s Nook brand of electronic reading devices and accessories at its stores on Oct. 3.

    The basic Nook sells for $139, and the color version sells for $249.

  • Domino’s Pizza’s ordering app achieves $1 million in weekly sales

    Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Domino's Pizza announced that at after just three months since its launch, the new Domino's App for iPhone and iPod touch has achieved $1 million in sales over a single week.

    The app, offering customers the ability to order from almost all of Domino's nearly 5,000 U.S. locations with no login required, is well-received by consumers and fans.

  • ShopperTrak predicts 3% increase in holiday sales

    Chicago -- Retail sales will rise 3% percent during November and December compared to the year-ago period, but foot traffic will decrease 2.2%, according to ShopperTrak.

    ShopperTrak's holiday sales increase prediction follows 19 consecutive months of year-over-year U.S. retail sales growth. The expected increase is moderate compared with the 2010 holiday season's 4.1% sales increase over 2009.

  • Barnes & Noble announces Hart-Scott-Rodino approval of Liberty Media investment

    New York City -- Barnes & Noble said Tuesday that the FTC has granted early termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, allowing investor Liberty Media to move forward with its stock purchase in the bookseller.

    Barnes & Noble announced on Aug. 18 that Liberty Media invested an aggregate of $204 million in the company through the purchase of newly issued convertible preferred stock, totaling a 16.6% interest in Barnes and Noble.

  • Collective Brands forges new distribution agreements

    Lexington, Mass. -- Collective Brands’ Performance + Lifestyle Group, which owns Sperry Top-Sider, Keds and Stride Rite, has signed new distribution agreements with partners to ramp up international expansion in several markets, including Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Spain.

  • Survey: Most consumers concerned about online fraud

    Los Altos, Calif. -- A survey released Tuesday by ThreatMetrix and The Ponemon Institute found that the majority of consumers have real concerns about online fraud.

    According to the study “Mobile Payments & Online Shopping Survey of U.S. Consumers,”  one-third of consumers intend to purchase more online than in-store this holiday shopping season, and three in four have either some or serious concerns about online fraud.

  • Think Small?

    In past columns, I’ve spent time discussing how supermarkets and big-box retailers are successfully rolling out smaller stores. What hasn’t been talked about much is how that trend is starting to spread across the industry, in particular, with specialty retailers. It’s not just the big boys getting smaller any more, it’s almost everyone.
