  • Retro fashion retailer Bettie Page opens in Nashville

    Las Vegas -- Apparel retailer Bettie Page, which specializes in contemporary designs inspired by the 1940's and 50's, has made its Nashville debut. It is the company’s 15th location to date.

    "Our newest Bettie Page boutique is situated in the heart of Nashville," said Jan Glaser, co-CEO, Tatyana Designs, parent company of Bettie Page.

    One unique feature of the Nashville store is that the company has leased the entire 14,000-sq.-ft. building.

  • Target halfway home in Canada

    Another 20 Target stores are set to open next week in Canada, bringing the retailer’s total to 68 units with another 66 units planned for the second half of the year.

    The new stores opening between July 16 and July 30 include 11 units in Ontario, two each in British Columbia and Alberta, and three in Saskatchewan. The stores in Saskatchewan are the retailer’s first in that province.

    Target Canada president Tony Fisher said the retailer was excited to bring its unique brand of shopping to the additional locations and a new province.

  • Happy Family organic brand seeks parents of picky eaters

    NEW YORK, N.Y. — Happy Family, a leading organic baby and toddler food brand founded and operated by moms, wants picky eaters to clean their plates for a chance to win $20,000 toward a college education.

  • Sold: Danada Square East in Chicago MSA

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. -- Mid-America Real Estate Corp. has brokered the sale of Danada Square East, a 202,036-sq.-ft. grocery anchored shopping center in the Chicago suburb of Wheaton, Ill. Dominick’s anchors the center.

    Newport Capital Fund I purchased the property for $31,625,000 from CBRE Global Investors.

  • International speculation has Walmart entering Peru

    Peru tends to be a logical new market for many Chilean retailers and Walmart will be next, according to unconfirmed reports from a company executive who spoke to Reuters.

    The news agency this week said Walmart, which is already one of the leading retailers in Chile, will begin work this year to open stores in Peru and plans to form a local management team. As expected, Walmart denied the report but did acknowledge it planned to run a quality assurance office in Peru for procuring products.

  • OfficeMax takes pilot concept to Windy City

    NAPERVILLE, Ill. — OfficeMax is taking its new Business Solutions Center store concept to Chicago’s business-rich Streeterville neighborhood later this summer. The retailer opened its first center in Milwaukee back in April to test the pilot concept. 

    The currently unoccupied street-level location at 550 St. Clair St. will give the retailer 3,900-sq.-ft. of retail space where it will be able to showcase business services, solutions and products to help local entrepreneurs grow their businesses. 

  • Bob’s Stores/EMS parent names Petty CEO

    Meriden, Conn. – Vestis Retail Group, parent company of Bob’s Stores and Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS), has named James Petty as CEO effective July 8, 2013. Petty most recently served as president of retail stores for Cartier Inc. from 2007 to December 2012 and left the company after it relocated its retail group headquarters from Connecticut to Georgia. He also previously held executive positions at Limited Too and Gap Inc.
