  • Nordstrom Rack to open its first South Carolina store

    Seattle -- Nordstrom plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at Magnolia Park in Greenville, S.C. The approximately 32,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2014.  Magnolia Park is being developed by Menin Development.   

    The Magnolia Park Nordstrom Rack will be the company's first location in South Carolina.

  • Sears Canada to sell stake in eight properties

    New York -- Sears Canada announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to sell its 50% joint venture interest in eight properties it owns to Montez Income Properties Corp. for approximately $300 million (C$315 million). Sears’ joint venture partner in the properties is The Westcliff Group of Companies.

    The company said it will sell its interests in four regional shopping centers, two strip centers and two open-air retail centers.

  • Kohl’s announces Black Friday deals

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s on Monday announced an array of Black Friday sales events, kicking off at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

  • Sears sells real estate in Canada

    Sears Canada announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with Montez Income Properties Corp. to sell its 50% joint venture interest in eight properties it owns with The Westcliff Group of Companies for approximately $315 million.  

  • Amazon to deliver Sundays

    Amazon.com is working with the U.S. Postal Service to deliver packages on Sunday, starting in the Los Angeles and New York metropolitan areas, and plans to roll out the service to a large portion of the U.S. population, including Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Phoenix, in 2014.

    Amazon Prime members, who receive unlimited, free two-day shipping, are eligible for the service.

  • ICSC survey says consumers will start holiday shopping early

    Procrastinating is out this year when it comes to holiday shopping, with 62% of consumers surveyed planning to finish their gift buying on or before Dec. 16, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers.

    As in most years, the top shopping day of the year is expected to be Black Friday. However, Cyber Monday will follow close behind across most demographic groups, overtaking Super Saturday as the second busiest holiday shopping day of the year.

  • H&M enlists Lady Gaga for new Times Square grand opening event

    H&M plans to hold a ribbon-cutting celebration marking the opening of a 42,000-sq.-ft. store in New York City’s Times Square at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14. On hand to help light the H&M logo at the top of 4 Times Square will be global superstar Lady Gaga.

  • Brown Shoe Company luxury brand launches e-commerce site

    Brown Shoe Company-owned brand Sam Edelman is stepping into the digital arena. The footwear, accessory and soon-to-be apparel brand has launched a dedicated e-commerce site which will allow consumers to purchase online directly from the retailer for the first time.

  • Sport Chalet sees e-commerce surge

    A 32.4% increase in online sales was one of few bright spots in regional sporting goods retailer Sport Chalet’s second quarter.

    During the period ended September 29, the Los Angeles-based chain said sales declined 5.2% to $86.7 due to a 2.5% same store sales decline, the closure of three underperforming stores and weakness in its team sales division due to changes in personnel. The negative factors were offset by strength in the online business and the opening of one new store. Sport Chalet ended the quarter with 52 stores.

  • comScore: Digital commerce soars in Q3

    Reston, Va. – U.S. desktop-based e-commerce sales grew year-over-year to $47.5 billion during the third quarter of 2013, marking the 16th consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. In addition, newly released comScore data shows that e-commerce spending on smartphones and tablets added $5.8 billion for the quarter, up 26% from year ago, for a total digital commerce spending total of $53.2 billion in the third quarter.
