  • Former Toys ‘R’ Us exec Stride(s) Rite

    Wolverine Worldwide has appointed Ira P. Hernowitz as president of the Stride Rite Children's Group.

    Hernowitz most recently served as EVP of "R" Us Brands for Toys “R” Us, Inc. He has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout his career, and deep experience in children's products.

  • Postal Rate Increases

    Mini catalogs help offset increased costs of mailing, without sacrificing circulation

    In the largest price increase since 2007, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is proposing a rate hike of 5.9%, a move that has catalog mailers scrambling to assess the impact of such an increase and also evaluating less expensive alternatives. The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) has up to 90 days to rule on the proposal, with the price increase going into effect as early as Jan. 27, 2014.

    Von Maur has opened its first location in Alabama, just outside of Birmingham, at Riverchase Galleria in Hoover. The 185,000-sq.-ft. store is one of the largest locations in the country.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods opens three new stores, one remodeled store Nov. 8

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods will open three new stores and one remodeled store on Nov. 8. The new stores will be located at Newport Pavilion in Newport, Ky., Bartonsville Square in Stroudsburg, Pa., and South County Mall in South County, Mo.

    Dick’s will also open its newly remodeled store in Saratoga Springs, NY on Sunday, Nov. 10.

    The new stores will mark Dick’s 10th store in Kentucky, 37th store in Pennsylvania, and 13th store in Missouri. Dick’s will operate 555 stores in the U.S. as of Nov. 10.

  • Gigwalk upgrades platform, enhances workforce

    Gigwalk has made a major upgrade to its platform that involves new higher skilled, higher paid “Gigs” (jobs on the Gigwalk app) and free training programs based on worker certifications. The move makes Gigwalk the only mobile work marketplace that allows workers to advance their careers through special courses and certifications.

  • Blue Nile’s international business bolsters third quarter results

    Blue Nile, a leading online retailer of diamonds and fine jewelry, experienced its sixth consecutive quarter of double digit growth.

    Net sales increased 10.1% to $98.9 million for the third quarter, compared to $89.8 million for the year-ago quarter.

  • The Container Store makes public debut on New York Stock Exchange

    New York -- The Container Store on Friday, Nov. 1, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, under the ticker symbol “TCS.” Expectations were high: On Thursday, the retailer set its IPO price at $18 per share, higher than the originally-expected range of $14 to $16 per share.

    The company is offering all 12.5 million shares of common stock, with an additional 1.9 million shares 30-day purchase option for the underwriters.

  • Google: Millennials most likely to do online, mobile holiday shopping

    Mountain View, Calif. – Millennial consumers age 18-34 are most likely to use online and mobile technology in their holiday shopping this year. According to a new survey from the Google 2013 Holiday Intentions Shopping Study, 95% of Millennials but only 87% of consumers age 35 and older plan to use the Internet as a tool for holiday shopping.
