  • comScore: Digital commerce soars in Q3

    Reston, Va. – U.S. desktop-based e-commerce sales grew year-over-year to $47.5 billion during the third quarter of 2013, marking the 16th consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. In addition, newly released comScore data shows that e-commerce spending on smartphones and tablets added $5.8 billion for the quarter, up 26% from year ago, for a total digital commerce spending total of $53.2 billion in the third quarter.

  • CBRE arranges financing for $41.6 million portfolio

    Dallas — CBRE Capital Markets arranged financing for the acquisition of a portfolio of 16 shopping centers totaling approximately 417,000 sq. ft. Located across the country, each of the 16 strip centers is adjacent to a Wal-Mart Supercenter shadow anchor. CBRE worked on behalf of the borrower, a partnership between Dallas-based Fountain Capital and Cheney & Mathes Properties, to obtain a 10-year, $41.6 million fixed-rate, non-recourse loan through the Goldman Sachs Mortgage Co.

  • Peapod and Giant open new fulfillment center

    Leading Internet grocer Peapod and supermarket chain Giant Food Stores have opened a new fulfillment center in Coopersburg, Pa.

    "Peapod by Giant has seen exciting growth in the Philadelphia area and we are delighted to partner with our sister grocer, Peapod, to expand service to additional zip codes in the Giant trade area," said Rick Herring, president.   • The Fresh Market opens in One Loudoun

    Ashburn, Va. — One Loudoun Downtown, a joint venture of Miller and Smith and North America Sekisui House, has announced the opening of a 23,800-sq.-ft. The Fresh Market.

    One Loudoun is a 358-acre master planned community in Loudoun County, Va., that includes 1,040 homes, 702,000 sq. ft. of retail, a luxury hotel and three million sq. ft. of office space.

    The Fresh Market currently operates 144 stores in 26 states.

  • Rue21 adds clicks to its bricks

    Welcome to the Web Rue21. The operator of nearly 1,000 stores nationwide has joined the ranks of virtually every other retailer and now sells products via the Internet.

    The specialty apparel retailer focused on teens and young adults on Friday announced the launch of their online shopping site Rue21.com.

  • Gap grows Q3 sales

    San Francisco – Gap Inc. reported increased net and same-store sales during the third quarter of fiscal 2013 in a partial financial release. Gap’s third quarter net sales grew 3% and same-store sales grew 1% compared to the prior year.

    In addition, Gap’s same-store sales grew 4% in October 2013. The retailer will release full third quarter earnings results on Nov. 21, 2013.

  • Survey: Mobile devices key to in-store shopping

    Los Angeles – A majority of customers visit stores equipped with mobile devices. According to a new survey from mobile technology provider Useablenet, 70% of U.S., shoppers and 60% of U.K., shoppers have their mobile phone on their person in-store.

    And 30% of U.S. shoppers use their smartphones to aid the shopping experience in-store, compared to 40% in the U.K. In addition, 77% of U.S., and 81% of U.K., consumers prefer to browse on smartphone but make purchases on a larger device, such as tablet or computer
