  • 99 Cents Only opens nine new California stores

    City of Commerce, Calif. – 99 Cents Only Stores is opening nine new stores in California between April 9 and April 11. The stores will be located in the communities of San Luis Obispo, Ontario, Sonora, Santee, Escondido, Tustin, San Bernardino, Cypress and South El Monte.

    99 Cents Only currently operates 384 stores located in California, Texas, Arizona & Nevada.
     

  • Nordstrom Rack plans two new stores

    Seattle – Nordstrom Inc. plans to open two new Nordstrom Rack stores in Pittsburgh and Novi, Michigan. The 40,000-sq.-ft. Pittsburgh store is scheduled to open in fall 2016 at The Block Northway mall.

  • Party City files for IPO, plans 350 new stores

    Rockaway, N.J. – Party City is joining the initial public offering (IPO) party. The retailer has filed paperwork for an IPO that could raise as much as $428 million and value the company up to $2 billion.

    One of the main reasons Party City wants to take its celebration public is to support planned growth of 350 new North American stores. The retailer currently operates 900 Party City stores, as well as the Halloween City, Factory Card & Party Outlet and Party Packagers chains.

  • Hudson’s Bay Co.’s profit surges, boosted by digital growth and strong sales at Saks

    Toronto -- Hudson’s Bay Company’s net profit in the fourth quarter jumped to C$111 million (USD $88.9 million) from C$37 million ,in the year-ago period, helped by strong digital sales, the successful integration of Saks Fifth Avenue and the strong U.S. dollar. The retailer said it plans to accelerate openings of Saks’ off-price Off 5th brand and strengthen its digital and omnichannel capabilities in its current fiscal year.  

  • Century 21 to expand beyond Northeast with store in Florida

    New York -- Legendary Manhattan off-price retailer Century 21 will open its first store outside its Northeast home base, at Sawgrass Mills, Sunrise, Florida. The 85,000-sq.-ft. store is set to open in the fall of 2016.

  • RadioShack CEO Joe Magnacca steps down

    New York -- Joe Magnacca has stepped down as CEO of RadioShack. Magnacca made the announcement on Wednesday in an internal memo to employees, according to the Dallas Business Journal. It came a day after Standard General was given the green light by a bankruptcy court judge to acquire RadioShack’s assets.

  • Report: Maui Kmart store purchased for $20.8 million

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Hendricks Commercial Properties LLC, a Wisconsin-based real estate firm, has reportedly purchased the lone Kmart store on the Hawaiian island of Maui, for $20.8 million. According to Pacific Business News, the 108,000-sq.-ft. building is part of a seven-acre parcel that had been on the market for $22.5 million.

    Hendricks purchased the store from KM Maui Partners, who had been leasing the store back to Kmart.
