Reports: ‘No truth’ to rumors of Target-Kroger merger

3/23/2018
A report by Fast Company that Target Corp. and The Kroger Company were discussing a possible merger has been shot down by Reuters and CNBC.

Reuters and CNBC reported that that there was “no truth” to the report that the two retail companies were in merger discussions. Target and Kroger have met to discuss a possible Shipt partnership, according to CNBC. Target acquired Shipt, a same-day delivery service, in December.

The Reuters report quoted Kroger spokeswoman Kristal Howard who said: “We generally don’t comment on rumors or speculation.”

According to The Fast Company report, the two retailers started talking last summer about a partnership that could improve Target’s grocery business and give Kroger customers more access to merchandise and e-commerce.
