  • Report: Target puts Canadian sales at $6 billion by 2017

    New York City -- Target expects sales from its upcoming Canadian stores to total more than $6 billion by 2017, the company’s CFO said Tuesday, Dow Jones reported.

    Speaking to Wall Street analysts, CFO Douglas Scovanner said Target expects to have more than 200 stores in Canada within the next five to 10 years, with the stores generating about $6 billion Canadian ($6.27 billion in U.S. dollars based on Tuesday’s exchange rate).

  • Former Walmart executive named head of 8th & Walton

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — A provider of retailer supplier education services has named a 31-year Walmart veteran as its president and CEO.

    8th & Walton said Mike Cockrell, who most recently served as chief merchandising officer of Walmart's Indian joint venture with Bharti before his retirement in February, would lead the company's efforts to accelerate growth initiatives while enhancing existing services.

  • J. Crew to expand DC to support international expansion

    New York City -- J. Crew said Tuesday that it plans a $20 million expansion of its Lynchburg, Va., distribution center to facilitate the retailer’s goal of selling more clothes overseas.

    According to a report in the Lynchburg newspaper News & Advance, J. Crew is slated to open its first store outside the tates and start shipping orders to Europe by the end of 2011. Those orders will be filled at J. Crew’s facility in Lynchburg.

  • La Colombe Torrefaction to open third Manhattan location

    New York City -- Robert K. Futterman & Associates said that it has arranged a 1,500-sq.-ft. lease with La Colombe Torrefaction at 400 Lafayette Street, located in NoHo.

    Scheduled to open in the summer, this will be the third New York City location for the coffee house.   
     

  • GameStop partners with Adgregate Markets to open a Facebook store

    Grapevine, Texas -- GameStop Corp. has selected Adgregate Markets, a leader in secure social commerce solutions, to provide social shopping on its Facebook page through Adgregate’s proprietary ShopFans solution.

    GameStop is the first multichannel gaming company to launch a storefront on Facebook and provide true social commerce to more than 1.8 million Facebook fans.

  • Uniqlo to open third New York City store

    New York City -- Japanese apparel retailer Uniqlo said Thursday it will open its third New York City location.

    The new store, on 34th Street, set to open this fall, following the opening of the chain’s largest flagship location on Fifth Avenue earlier in the fall. Both stores will join the current Uniqlo location in Manhattan’s Soho district.
     

  • Modell’s to open smaller concept store at Interstate Shopping Center

    Ramsey, N.J. -- Welco Realty, an X Team partner, announced that it has signed a lease with Modell’s Sporting Goods for its new smaller-concept store, the retailer’s first in New Jersey.

    The store is approximately 8,551 sq. ft., about half its standard size. Modell’s first small-format store opened on Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan.
