  • Joint venture acquires greater Cleveland center

    NEW YORK — Hornig Capital Partners, a privately held New York City-based investment company, has combined in a joint venture with Hutensky Capital Partners of Hartford, Conn. to acquire the Golden Gate Shopping Center in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, in the greater Cleveland region. The joint venture purchased the property from Forest City Enterprises for $47,050,000, together with B&D Holdings, making it one of the largest single asset retail deals in the region during the past 24 months.

  • Sendik’s Food Market to co-anchor The Corners of Brookfield

    Milwaukee -- The Marcus Corp. announced that Sendik’s Food Market will open a 32,000-sq.-ft. grocery store at The Corners of Brookfield, an open-air town center development in the Town of Brookfield, Wisconsin.

    The Balistreri-owned and operated grocer will be located on the Bluemound Road side of the 19-acre site at the intersection of I-94, Barker Road and Bluemound Road at the main entrance to the shopping center.

  • Sears Holdings names Displaydata as a top supplier

    London -- Displaydata announced Tuesday it was named a 2014 Partner in Transformation for Sears Holdings Corp. The company received the award for delivering Sears' innovative digital display technology that supports its Shop Your Way program in stores.

    Displaydata's responsiveness, hands-on delivery and commitment to supporting Sears' deployment in hundreds of stores to date has built a strong collaboration and partnership between both organizations. The award was recently presented at Sears Holdings' 2014 Vendor Summit.

  • Management shake-up at Signet Jewelers; Zale CEO Killion resigns

    Hamilton, Bermuda -- Signet Jewelers Ltd. on Tuesday announced that Theo Killion, CEO and president of its newly acquired Zale division, has resigned, effective July 31.

    Killion had been tapped to lead Zale as a separate division within the company, Signet said when the deal closed in late May. George Murray, Signet's current chief integration management officer, has been promoted to president of the Zale division and will succeed Killion upon his departure.

  • American Eagle to open three U.K. stores

    Pittsburgh - American Eagle Outfitters Inc. is entering the U.K. with the opening of three new company-owned stores. The stores will be located in the Bluewater mall in Kent, England, as well as the Westfield Group’s London and Stratford City shopping centers in London, England.

    The stores opening in the Westfield centers will include an aerie presence in shop-in-shop form. All of the stores are expected to open during fall 2014.

  • Brooks Brothers names designer Zac Posen as women’s creative director

    New York - Brooks Brothers has named designer Zac Posen as creative director for its signature women's collection and accessories. In this new role, Posen will direct the current Brooks Brothers design and merchant teams and will be responsible for the women's collection and affect a variety of areas including brand development and presentation for the women's label.

    Posen's first women's collection for Brooks Brothers will debut in spring 2016 and will be available worldwide. Posen launched his eponymous collection in 2001.

  • Canada’s Supreme Court rules against Wal-Mart over store closing

    New York -- The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that Wal-Mart violated Quebec labor law by closing its store in Jonquiere, Quebec, in 2005.
     
    In a 5-2 decision announced on Friday, the court ruled that the 190 employees who were terminated when the store was closed are entitled to compensation, according to CBC Montreal.  
     

  • dd’s Discounts to open in Hallandale, Fla.

    Dublin, Calif. — dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, will open its 23rd new store in Florida on June 28 in the Hallandale Shopping Center in Hallandale Beach, Florida. When this store opens, dd’s Discounts will operate more than 140 locations in 12 states. The retailer is on schedule to complete its expansion plan to open approximately 20 locations in 2014.
