  • Panda Express debuts Panda Dry Cleaning format

    New York City -- The owners of the Panda Express fast-food chain, Andrew and Peggy Cherng, have partnered with Procter & Gamble, whose products include Tide laundry detergent, to open a dry cleaning chain, Panda Dry Cleaning, according to the Los Angeles Times.

    The new concept made its debut under the Tide Dry Cleaners banner in Henderson, Nev., and as many as 200 franchised locations nationwide are planned for the next five years.

  • Sprouts Farmers Market to close three stores in Austin, Texas

    Phoenix -- Sprouts Farmers Markets plans to close three of its six stores in Austin, Texas.

    Sprouts announced the closings via Twitter. In the tweet, it said that employees of the three stores that are closing would be assigned to other locations.
     

  • K-VA-T Food Stores partners with Revionics for price optimization

    Roseville, Calif. -- Retail life cycle price optimization solution-provider Revionics said it has partnered with K-VA-T Food Stores for a price optimization solution.

    K-VA-T will deploy Revionics  Price Optimization and Revionics Promotion Optimization, which includes Revionics' category planning tools, weekly price maintenance capabilities and optimized prices across all pricing zones, each week.  

  • Shopko Stores to merge with Pamida

    Green Bay, Wis. -- Shopko Stores Operating Co. said Wednesday that Shopko and Pamida will merge to create one of the largest U.S. retailers focused on serving smaller and rural communities. The combined entity will have nearly 350 locations in 22 states and plans to accelerate new store growth in the second half of 2012 and beyond. Financial details of the merger, expected to close in mid-February, were not disclosed.

  • Subway to add 2,500 locations in 2012

    New York City -- Subway Restaurants plans to add 2,500 restaurants in 2012, according to a report on QSRweb.com.

    In 2011, Subway opened more than 2,100 locations, including 1,000 new units in the United States and Canada.  A big part of the chain's growth came from nontraditional spaces such as convenience stores, department stores, train stations, museums, hotel lobbies and movie theaters, the report said.
     

  • Holiday Deadline Extension: Retail Store of the Year Design Competition

    New York City – Due to the holiday rush, Chain Store Age has extended the deadline for its 30th annual Retail Store of the Year Design Competition. Deadline submission is Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

    Eligible projects are those completed between November 2010 and December 2011. Chain Store Age invites design firms, retailers architects, and suppliers to submit entries,

    Twenty-one competition categories are featured, ranging from supermarkets and discount/mass merchants to specialty stores and pop-up stores.

  • Parker’s Convenience Stores rolls out PriceAdvantage software solution

    Colorado Springs, Col. -- PriceAdvantage, a division of Skyline Products, announced that Parker's Convenience Stores has successfully completed its rollout of PriceAdvantage Enterprise. The software offering from Skyline allows companies like Parker's to automate and streamline the process of changing fuel prices at their stores.

  • Carrefour to sell, lease-back 97 stores

    Paris -- A Tuesday report by the Wall Street Journal said that French retailer Carrefour SA has sold 97 supermarket sites to an investment company for $477 million.

    Carrefour, the world’s second-largest retailer after Wal-Mart Stores, will continue to operate the sites through 12-year leases under its Carrefour Markets banner. The company said the sales and lease-backs will allow it to optimize the use of its capital, which will be reinvested into other real estate.
