  • Milestone store opening for Dollar General

    Dollar General is celebrating an important milestone.   The discounter has opened its 14,000th retail location. The store is located in Dauphin, Pa.   “Dollar General is excited to celebrate our company’s continued growth by celebrating our 14,000th store grand opening today,” said Todd Vasos, CEO, Dollar General. “For nearly 80 years, Dollar General has continually been focused on delivering everyday low prices, convenience and value to the communities we serve."  
  • Convenience store giant wins energy efficiency award

    7-Eleven is being honored for its commitment to reducing energy.   The Alliance to Save Energy has awarded 7-Eleven with the Alliance to Save Energy "Built Environment" award for its commitment to reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency in its stores.    7-Eleven has successfully decreased electricity use in store operations by an estimated 21% over the past seven years through installing LED lighting, energy management systems and high-efficiency HVAC units.  
  • Center changes hands in ‘fast-growing’ Folsom

    Citing favorable demographics and a steady income stream, Nazareth Enterprises acquired the Walmart Central Shopping Center in Folsom, California for $39.7 million.    Besides Walmart, the 139,377-sq.-ft. center contains a 24-hour Fitness SuperSport Gym, the 99Cent Store, and Great Clips. It’s shadow-anchored by a Super Walmart.  
  • Upcoming store will be a first for Wegmans

    Wegmans Food Markets is expanding its footprint with a new concept.    In a first for the 101-year-old grocer, Wegmans said it will open a two-level store, at Natick Mall, Natick, Mass., with direct access to the shopping center. The 134,000-sq.-ft. store will be located in a building that formerly housed one of the mall's anchors, J.C. Penney.    
  • Quick-service giant’s app adds more options for customers

    Dunkin’ Brands is giving mobile customers another way to fulfill their caffeine fix.    In a bid to add more convenience to their “Order on the Go” service, the quick service giant is adding curbside delivery to its menu of order fulfillment options. Once customers place their order via their mobile app, they can pick up their order in-store, at drive-thru, or pull into a dedicated parking spot where an associate will deliver it to their car.  
  • Starbucks' Schultz in emotional address on Charlottesville

    Howard Schultz, the politically progressive — and famously outspoken — founder of Starbucks Coffee Corp., weighed in on the rally and violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and its aftermath in an emotional speech to company employees.    Speaking at a standing-room only employee forum, Schultz did not specifically blame or criticize the President, saying he would let his (the President’s) actions speak for themselves. But the legendary retailer left little doubt of how he felt.  
  • SoCal center sells for $20.7 million

    A limited partnership has purchased the 110,359-sq.-ft. Southridge Plaza in Fontana, California for $20.7 million.   Anchored by a Rio Ranch Market, the necessity-based center is strong among Hispanic consumers in this town just east of San Bernardino. Other tenants include Rite Aid, AutoZone, McDonald’s, Subway, Waba Grill, and Cricket Wireless.  
  • The five most loved brands are....

    A social media giant and an online retail giant are the most loved brands in the world.    Facebook took the top spot, followed by Amazon, in NetBase's third annual "Top 100 Global Brand Love List." Rounding out the top five were eBay, Apple, and Snap.
