  • Tiger Direct slices store count

    Port Washington, N.Y. – Consumer electronics retailer Tiger Direct, a subsidiary of Systemax, has decided to focus on its online territory. Tiger Direct is shuttering 31 of its 34 U.S.-based and international stores.

    Gordon Brothers Group subsidiary DJM Real Estate is handling the disposal of 27 Tiger Direct stores in the U.S. and Canada. The stores, which range in size from 14,000 to 33,400-sq.-ft, can be subleased or have their leases purchased outright.
     

  • RadioShack gives investors harsh reminder

    Unusual trading activity in shares of RadioShack prompted the company to issue a public statement reminding speculators the company’s shares are soon likely to be worthless.

    Bankrupt companies don’t normally issue such warnings, but the move was prompted by trading in the company’s shares on the OTC Pink exchange under the symbol RSHCQ after the company was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.

  • Weather chills February retail sales

    Washington, D.C. – The long winter chill put a damper on consumer spending and retail sales in February. According to data from the National Retail Federation (NRF), excluding automobiles, gasoline stations and restaurants, retail sales declined 0.2% seasonally-adjusted month-to-month, yet were up 3% on an unadjusted year-over-year basis.

    Additional findings from NRF’s monthly retail sales analysis found that:

  • Ohio Valley Mall grows its tenant lineup

    St. Clairsville, Ohio -- Ulta Beauty and Sincerely Yogurt will both open at Ohio Valley Mall this year. Sincerely Yogurt will debut first, opening a 1,275-sq.-ft. location late spring 2015. Ulta Beauty will open a 9,700-sq.-ft. store near Sears by early fall.  The construction of the new Ulta will introduce a new, exterior doorway providing direct access from the mall parking area.

    Owned by Cafaro Company, the recently renovated Ohio Valley Mall is located on I-70, Exit 218-Mall Road, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.  
     

  • Magnolia Marketplace opens in New Orleans

    New Orleans - Magnolia Marketplace, a 106,000-sq.-ft. shopping center located in New Orleans’ Central City neighborhood, opened Friday, March 13. The project, overseen by JCH Development and Stirling Properties, was 100% pre-leased prior to the January 2014 groundbreaking.

  • Google opens first shop in London

    Another online company has entered the physical retail space: Google has opened an in-store shop in Currys PC World, on Tottenham Court Road in London.

  • GameStop launches gift card exchange

    Grapevine, Texas - GameStop customers can now sell select gift cards at any GameStop retail location, as well as online. This is part of an expanded offering launched online in 2014 through a partnership with gift card exchange platform Cardpool.
