  • BJ's opens new wholesale club in Massachusetts

    Northborough, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club said Tuesday it has opened its newest Massachusetts Club location at Northborough Crossing 6102 Shops Way in Northborough, Mass.

    The 120,000-sq-ft. store replaces a 23-year-old BJ's Wholesale Club nearby and adds services such as a gas station, full-service delicatessen, enhanced tire center and integrated liquor shop.
     

  • Aldi close to deal for Manhattan space

    New York City -- Aldi is close to making a deal to open its first supermarket in Manhattan, Craine’s New York reported.

    The German discount grocer opened its first store in New York City, in Queens, last year. According to Craine’s, Aldi is set to lease space at East River Plaza, located between 116th St. and 119 St. in Harlem. The shopper center already boasts such tenants as Target, Best Buy and the city’s first Costco.

  • BJ's shareholders OK acquisition by Leonard Green, CVC

    WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — At a special meeting held Friday, BJ's Wholesale Club stockholders approved the definitive agreement between the company and Leonard Green & Partners and CVC Capital Partners to be acquired in an all-cash transaction valued at about $2.8 billion.

    BJ's anticipates the closing of the transaction, which was announced in late June, will occur around the end of the month.

  • BJ's shareholders OK acquisition

    Westborough, Mass. -- BJ’s Wholesale Club said Friday that its shareholders have okayed the acquisition bid that will take the company private.

    Private equity firms Leonard Green & Partners and CVC Capital Partners agreed to acquire the warehouse club operator in a deal valued at $2.8 billion.

    According to BJ’s, 72% of its shareholders approved the bid. The deal is slated to close on or about Sept. 30.

    ORANGE, Calif. — Naturade on Wednesday announced the mass-market introduction of HealthSmart, a doctor-formulated daily protein shake mix that will serve as a comprehensive source of nutrition for active adults. 

    Endorsed by baseball hall of famer George Brett, HealthSmart contains 18 g of whey, soy, pea and rice protein isolates, and is fortified with omega 3s and antioxidants for heart health, probiotics and fiber for healthy digestion, and 24 vitamins and minerals.

  • PriceSmart same-store sales up; opens 29th club

    San Diego -- PriceSmart's same-store sales rose 17.7% in August. Total revenue for the five weeks ended Sept. 4 climbed 21.5% to $148.3 million.

    PriceSmart also announced that on August 19, 2011 opened its first warehouse club in Colombia. This warehouse club, located in Barranquilla, brings to 29 the total number of warehouse clubs in operation by the company.

    PriceSmart, based in San Diego, had 29 warehouse clubs at August's end. The company runs membership warehouse clubs in Central America and the Caribbean.

  • Survey: Retailers plan to open more stores due to lower rents

    Los Angeles -- A report released Tuesday by commercial real estate firm C.B. Richard Ellis said that 59% of U.S. retailers plan to open more stores due to the attractive rental rates available in the current market environment.
