  • Timberland’s five-year plan includes 31% annual online growth, 130 new stores

    Stratham, N.H. -- Timberland detailed its plan to grow revenues by $1.4 billion during the next five years at an investor meeting at the company’s headquarters in Stratham, New Hampshire. Timberland’s management said it expects total revenues to reach $3.1 billion by the end of 2019, representing growth of 13% per year. (Timberland is a wholly owned subsidiary of VF Corporation.

  • Family Dollar rejects Dollar General’s tender offer

    Matthews, N.C. -- The heated battle for Family Dollar Stores rages on, with Family Dollar on Wednesday rejecting a $9.1 billion takeover bid from rival Dollar General and reaffirming its support of its deal with Dollar Tree. Family Dollar also urged shareholders not to tender their shares to the competing chain.

  • Overstock app nabs top spot in Google Play Store's Editors' Choice

    Overstock's Android app — which includes Google Wallet checkout, allowing shoppers to check out quickly with the press of a button, and alerts shoppers to daily flash sales — has earned the top ranking in the Google Play Store's Editors' Choice.

  • Pep Boys selects LogicSource for sourcing and procurement services

    Norwalk, Conn. -- LogicSource, a leading sourcing and procurement services firm, announced a multi-year partnership with Pep Boys. LogicSource will provide on-site resources and access to shared service subject matter experts, optimizing Pep Boys’ strategic sourcing and procurement processes and reducing Pep Boys’ costs and time to market.

    The process improvements and costs savings will support Pep Boys’ “Road Ahead” expansion strategy.

  • Kohl’s ups holiday hiring

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s Department Stores anticipates hiring more than 67,000 associates nationwide this holiday season to support in-store and online holiday business.

    Kohl’s plans on hiring an average of 50 associates per store at its 1,163 stores in 49 states. In addition, the company anticipates hiring approximately 9,300 seasonal positions at distribution centers across the country and approximately 670 seasonal credit operations positions.


     

  • New not enough to drive General Mills sales

    The worldwide introduction of 250 new items in the couldn’t help General Mills overcome other challenges that caused sales and profits to decline during the company’s first quarter.

    Total company sales during the quarter ended August 24 declined 2% to $4.27 billion and earnings per share fell to 55 cents from 70 cents last year with the U.S. retail climate causing much of the company’s difficulties.

  • Plug and Play Holds Quarterly Pitch Competition Event

    Plug and Play, a business accelerator that specializes in tech startups, is holding its quarterly pitch competition event on its campus in Sunnyvale, California, on Thursday, September 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. PDT.   • Shopko to unveil partial store remodeling project

    Shopko plans to unveil the results of a partial store remodeling project in all of its 133 Shopko stores Sept. 18.

    The remodel includes the removal of the stores' large glass jewelry cabinets to make shopping in the jewelry department more convenient and accessible to consumers. Customers will no longer have to wait for a store associate to unlock and remove jewelry items, but will be able to easily see, touch and try on jewelry pieces.
