  • Google makes impressive store debut in Manhattan

    Google has “popped up” in the SoHo section of downtown Manhattan with a temporary store that is all about experience.   The outpost, called "Made by Google,” is designed as a showcase for the company’s expanding line of electronic devices, and give visitors a chance to try out and experience its latest devices. The store does not sell any products, however. For that, customers will have to shop online or go to Best Buy.  
  • Report: Authentic Brands Group, Iconix Brand Group eyeing American Apparel

    Several companies have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the debt-laden American Apparel.   Brand licensors Authentic Brands Group and Iconix Brand Group are among the companies eying the chain, Reuters reported.

  • Specialty golf retailer bucks trend

    On the heels of Golfsmith and The Sports Authority declaring bankruptcy, PGA Tour Superstore is picking up momentum and opening stores.     The privately held chain recently acquired a Sports Authority location in Glendale, Arizona, which it will reopen under its own banner in January 2017. PGA Tour is also planning new stores in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and in Jacksonville, Florida, with both opening in 2017.  
  • Starbucks ups store count for its new upscale chain

    Starbucks is bullish about its new café format, Starbucks Reserve, which will target a more sophisticated audience with premium coffees and food offerings.     The company had previously said it planned to open 500 Reserve locations globally, with the format making its debut next year. But it is looking to open as many as 1,000 locations, Bloomberg reported.
  • PetSmart uses acquisition to drive pet adoptions

    PetSmart’s recent acquisition will help place pets with prospective forever families even faster.   The specialty pet retailer acquired AllPaws, one of the largest online and mobile platforms that matches those looking to adopt a pet with pets ideally suited for their home, family and lifestyle. Approximately 5,000 animal rescues and shelters across North America already utilize AllPaws to promote their adoptable pets.  
  • Report: Smartphones drive overall m-commerce growth

    The role of smartphones in the evolution of mobile commerce has hit an epic status.   Mobile e-commerce, through both apps and browsers, jumped 60% in 2015 to reach $120 billion. More importantly, smartphones alone are generating $0.70 for every $1 made in mobile commerce, according to “Mobile Online Retail Payments 2016: Reinventing Shopping in a Mobile-First Era,” a report from Javelin.  
  • Meet 2016’s newest ‘small screen’ star: Wayfair

    Who hasn’t wanted to buy “looks” featured on their favorite television show? Now, it’s a reality.   A new TV talk show series, created through a partnership between Wayfair and A+E Networks, will allow viewers to purchase all featured items on Wayfair.com.   The show, called The Way Home, uses a combination of home décor and DIY how-to’s, room makeovers and everyday solutions for better living — and everything displayed is for sale.
