  • BBBY dominates home space with another solid quarter

    UNION, N.J. — Bed Bath & Beyond's aggressive promotional strategy appears to be paying off as the company reported another quarter of strong sales. The company reported that net sales for the fiscal second quarter of 2011 were approximately $2.314 billion, an increase of approximately 8.3% from net sales of approximately $2.137 billion reported in the fiscal second quarter of 2010. Comparable-store sales in the fiscal second quarter of 2011 increased by approximately 5.6%, compared with an increase of approximately 7.4% in last year's fiscal second quarter.

  • Martha Stewart to launch home office line at Staples

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples announced that it has teamed up with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Avery Dennison to create a new line of home office products.

    The Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery product line will debut in early 2012 with more than 300 SKUs across multiple product categories, which will be sold exclusively at Staples.

  • Ikea goes solar in Emeryville, Calif.

    Emeryville, Calif. -- Ikea officially plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its East Bay store in Emeryville, Calif. The 68,000-sq.-ft. photovoltaic array consists of a 538-kW system, built with approximately 2,394 panels.

    The installation will produce approximately 760,300 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 578 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), eliminating the emissions of 103 cars or powering 64 homes yearly.

  • Walgreens begin solar installations at Ohio stores

    Chicago -- SoCore Energy has been chosen as the solar developer to assist Walgreens in completing one of the nation’s largest solar energy rollouts. Construction of the first 20 solar installations at Ohio-area Walgreens began earlier this month, at stores in Cincinnati.

    SoCore Energy is under contract to provide 90 Ohio solar installations for Walgreens. The first 53 will be completed by Nov. 11, pushing Walgreens’ total number of solar sites to 136.

    Walgreens will lease the arrays from SoCore for 10 years.

  • Urban Retail to manage four regional malls

    Chicago -- Urban Retail Properties, LLC said it has been awarded the contract by Garrison Investment Group to provide management and leasing services for four regional shopping centers, effective immediately.

    Urban will assume third-party responsibilities for Chapel Hills Mall (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Central Mall (Salina, Kan.), Decatur Mall (Decatur, Ala.) and Lakeshore Mall (Gainesville, Ga.).

  • Fameco takes on two new property management assignments

    Plymouth Meeting, Pa. -- Fameco Real Estate, L.P. said that its property management division, Fameco Management Services, has been awarded two new assignments from Titanium Real Estate Advisors totaling 88,000 sq. ft.

    Designers Court is a 78,000-sq.-ft. shopping center located in Marlton, N.J., anchored by Atlas Interior Home Fashions, Kroungold’s Furniture, Mixellaneous, ABC Discount Appliances and Toppers Salon and Health Spa.

  • 1800mattress.com leases 2,500 sq. ft. in Brooklyn

    New York City -- Winick Realty Group announced that 1800mattress.com has leased its third Brooklyn location at 2417 Flatbush Avenue, one block from Kings Plaza in the Flatbush -- Ditmas Park neighborhood.

    The 2,500-sq.-ft. store was formerly home to Jennifer Convertibles.

    The new location is the retailer’s 52nd in the northeast from Virginia to New Hampshire.
     

  • J.C. Penney’s new Dallas store reflects chain’s commitment to energy

    Dallas -- J.C. Penney Co. will unveil the newest iteration of its store model with the opening of its new Dallas store in the TimberCreek Crossing shopping center on Sept. 30.

    The 105,000-sq.-ft. single-level store provides an assortment of services under one roof, including dedicated in-store environments for MNG by Mango and a 1,700-sq.-ft. Sephora shop.
