  • Walmart looks to spark sales with free shipping on electronics

    SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Walmart announced that it is offering free shipping on electronics more than $45 through Dec. 19 at Walmart.com.

  • HD's Menear points to merchandise highlights

    ATLANTA — Atlanta-based Home Depot's wind-and-storm aided sales effort in the third-quarter presented several category highlights, according to EVP merchandising Craig Menear.

    The company's strong third-quarter performance, which included a 13% net earnings increase and comp-store sales of positive 4.2%, included strength "in the core of the store" and growth in average ticket and transactions.

  • Home Depot's Q3 profit up 12%

    Atlanta -- Home Depot Inc. reported Tuesday that net income in the third quarter rose 12% to $934 million, compared with $834 million in the year-ago period. Storm-related repairs and spending on home projects gave the home-improvement retailer a third-quarter boost.

    Revenue rose 4% to $17.33 billion from $16.6 billion last year, beating Wall Street’s expected $17.11 billion in revenue.

    Same-store sales rose 4.2% globally and 3.8% in the United States.

  • Home Depot posts another quarter of growth

    ATLANTA — Stormy weather around the country had something to do with Home Depot's third quarter sales gain of 2.9%. So did strength in core categories.

    The world's largest home improvement retailer posted a 4.2% comp-store sales gain for the quarter ended Oct. 30. Total sales increased 2.9% to $17.326 billion. And even bigger growth came in the net earnings column, where Home Depot reported a 13.0% increase and net earnings of $934 million.

  • Sam's Club reveals Black Friday deals

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club has revealed 60 featured deals for its annual, members-only Day After Thanksgiving Event (D.A.T.E.). The event will take place at all Sam's Club locations nationwide at 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25.

    Members who participate in the event will be able to enjoy complimentary breakfast from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. In addition, shoppers who join Sam's Club or upgrade to Plus Membership while in-club through the weekend will receive a $20 gift card.

  • Sears Outlet to match competitor Black Friday ads

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears Holdings announced that its Sears Outlet stores will honor competitor's Black Friday ads through Nov. 30. Customers may bring in a Black Friday ad they find online, and if Sears Outlet has the same item model, brand and color in the store, they will match the price at the time of purchase, even if it is before Black Friday.   • Crate and Barrel unveils succession plan

    Northbrook, Ill. -- Crate and Barrel announced Friday that its president and CEO Barbara Turf, who is retiring spring 2012, will be succeeded by current company COO Sascha Bopp, who becomes CEO effective April 2012.

    Current CB2 director Marta Calle will become president, in charge of merchandising and marketing, and will report to Bopp.
