  • NRF launches campaign to push retail jobs, innovation

    Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation has launched a year-long advocacy campaign to advance a “Jobs, Innovation and Consumer Value Agenda” on behalf of the U.S. retail industry.

  • Applebee’s franchisee selects JobApp for hiring solution

    Newton, Pa. -- Restaurant operator, The Rose Group, a 59-unit Applebee's and four-unit Corner Bakery Café franchisee, said Tuesday it has selected JobApp Network as its automated hiring solution to improve restaurant hiring, manage compliance and maximize employee tax credits.

    Including the Rose Group, nearly 150 Applebee's units are currently utilizing the complete end-to-end hiring solution provided by JobApp, based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

  • NRF launches year-long advocacy campaign

    WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation has announced a major year-long campaign to help support the retail industry and the jobs it helps create. A centerpiece of the campaign – which will include lobbying, grassroots, advertising, social media, earned media and more – is www.RetailMeansJobs.com, an interactive web site and action center designed to encourage engagement on behalf of the retail community’s agenda.

  • Family Dollar names VP of food

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores has named Trey Johnson to the newly created position of senior VP – food.

    Johnson comes to Family Dollar from Sears Holdings where he created a limited assortment food concept for K-Mart. He also led the development of Wal-Mart’s Marketside format as its chief merchandising officer.
     

  • Stein Mart names interim CEO

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Stein Mart announced the appointment of Jay Stein as interim CEO, effective immediately, following the retirement of David Stovall, Jr., who has held that position since 2008.

    "On behalf of the board, I want to thank Dave for his service to Stein Mart over the last three years, and in particular, his accomplishments in returning the Company to solid profitability," said Jay Stein, chairman of the board of Stein Mart. "We wish him many happy years of well-earned retirement."

  • Report: Tentative deal in SoCal to avert strike

    New York City -- Union leaders on Monday said they reached a tentative agreement with The Vons Cos. Ralphs Grocery Co.; and Albertsons, to head off the threat of a strike in Southern California by more than 60,000 workers, the Associated Press reported.

    The union said the agreement, which still must be approved by the rank and file, would protect workers' health policies.

  • Man behind Marketside to oversee food at Family Dollar

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores announced that it has named Trey Johnson to the newly created position of SVP food. Johnson will report to Dorlisa Flur, EVP and chief merchandising officer.

  • Ex-Target marketing head appointed director of non-profit

    New York City -- Robert Tacker, former chief marketing officer at Target, has been appointed executive director for Adopt-A-Classroom, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting teachers and ensuring all children have equal access to quality education.

    Thacker joins the group following four decades in marketing and advertising at OfficeMax, Target and Sears and as former President and CEO of BBDO Minneapolis.
