  • Fresh & Easy seeks to expand workforce

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Tesco's U.S. subsidiary Fresh & Easy said it's looking to fill more than 100 employee positions, including positions for four new California stores, the company announced Thursday.

    Over the next several weeks, Fresh & Easy will open four new stores, which will be located in Los Angeles, Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Sunnyvale, Calif.

  • Court gives women in Wal-Mart class action suit time to file individual lawsuits

    New York City -- The women who were part of the large class action lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores have been given until Oct. 28 to file individual lawsuits against the company, a U.S. judge ruled, Reuters reported.

    The women, who claim the retailer denied them pay raises and promotions because of gender bias, are regrouping after the U.S. Supreme Court dismantled a class of up to 1.5 million current and former Wal-Mart workers in June.

    SAN FRANCISCO — Gap Inc. announced that it has released its fifth social and environmental responsibility report, a comprehensive update on its supply chain operations, environmental programs and community investment efforts from 2009 to 2010.

  • New president named at True Religion

    VERNON, Calif. — True Religion Apparel has announced that Lynne Koplin has been named president of the company effective immediately.

    Koplin joined the company in January 2010 as COO. Prior to joining the company, and since July 2005, she was the president women’s division, of Tommy Bahama, a subsidiary of Oxford Industries, and before that worked for a number of apparel and retail companies.

  • Whirlpool names new CFO

    BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp. announced that Roy Templin, EVP and CFO, will retire from the company. As part of the planned transition, Templin will remain in his current capacity until April 2012 to complete Whirlpool's year-end reporting and other transitional items. At that time, Larry Venturelli – currently SVP corporate controller, chief accounting officer and CFO for Whirlpool International – will succeed Templin as EVP and CFO.

  • 2Q loss widens for Sears Holdings

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears Holdings turned in disappointing sales and earnings for its second quarter as the company strives to turn around its performance in a weaker consumer spending environment.

    Sears Holdings reported a net loss of $146 million, or $1.37 per diluted share, for the second quarter compared with a net loss of $39 million, or 35 cents per diluted share for the same period last year.

  • Buckle profit and sales rise in Q2

    Kearney, Neb. -- Teen apparel retailer The Buckle reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended July 31 climbed 13.5% to $23.6 million. Revenue rose 12.6% to $212.4 million, and same-store sales increased 8.5%.

    The company also reported that its CFO Karen Rhoads will remain in her position, after having said earlier this year that she would be stepping down.
