  • Retailers add 28K jobs in May

    Washington, D.C. -- U.S. retailers added almost 28,000 new jobs in May, according to statistics from the Department of Labor. This followed 20,000 new retail hires in April.

    Restaurants hired another 38,000 people last month.

    New retail and restaurant hires helped drive the addition of 175,000 total new jobs to the U.S. economy in May.

     

  • Brixx Wood Fired Pizza comes to The Avenue East Cobb

    Atlanta -- Construction of a new Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is underway at The Avenue East Cobb in Marietta, Ga., just north of Atlanta. Cousins Properties manages the development.

    Approximately 3,600 sq. ft., the new Brixx will seat about 140 inside and 45 outside on a patio. Franchisees Nick and Raj Vadgama will open the new restaurant, the first Brixx in Georgia, in the fall.

    Brixx has also announced plans for a second franchised Georgia location in the Avenue Peachtree City, another Cousins property.

  • WP Realty acquires Plaza at the Pointe

    Bryn Mawr, Pa. -- WP Realty has acquired Plaza at the Pointe, a 149,016-sq.-ft. center located near Pittsburgh in the Parkway West retail submarket.

    Anchor tenants include Bed, Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, La-Z-Boy and Party City. An additional 21,556 sq. ft. anchor space is currently vacant.

    Latitude 40, a recently redeveloped 60,000-sq.-ft. entertainment center, and a number of national retailers shadow-anchor Plaza at the Pointe from adjacent properties.
     

  • Royal Properties brings Heartland Brewery to historic train station

    Port Chester, N.Y. -- Royal Properties has leased 5,630 sq. ft. in the historic Port Chester, N.Y., train station to Heartland Brewery. According to Royal Properties, the lease will run for 20 years and offer a five-year option.

    Heartland will open a food hall and beer garden restaurant in the station, which was constructed in 1890. To be called Port Chester Hall, the restaurant will feature a 3,600-sq.-ft. outdoor area with seating for 85.

  • WindStar takes Papa Murphy’s to Lamar Crossing

    Arlington, Texas -- Papa Murphy’s has leased a 1,340-sq.-ft. space at Lamar Crossing Shopping Center in Arlington, Texas, according to WindStar Properties.

    The Take ‘N’ Bake pizza shop, which prepares fresh pizzas for customers to bake at home, has 1,350 shops in 38 states and ranks as the fifth largest pizza company in the United States.

     

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods holds grand opening at Alliance Town Center

    Fort Worth, Texas -- Dick’s Sporting Goods is now open at Alliance Town Center in North Fort Worth, Texas. During the May 31 through June 2 grand opening ceremonies for the 50,000-sq.-ft. Phase II anchor, co-developer Trademark Property Co., announced plans to add 237,000-sq.-ft. of retail and restaurant space to the center.

    “With Dick’s opening, we are well positioned to complete the current phase and proceed with our main-street lifestyle expansion,” said Trademark CEO Terry Montesi.

  • Survey: Father’s Day 2013 sales to reach $13 billion

    New York -- Research released by IBISWorld showed that Father’s Day sales are forecast to total $13 billion in 2013, a 2% year-over-year increase. Results are expected to get a boost from the overall rise in consumer spending.

    Special outings, such as dining out and watching sporting events, are expected to account for the largest share of Father’s Day spending this year, contributing 18.8% of total holiday sales, up 3.5% from 2012.

  • Boneheads announces senior management team

    Atlanta -- Restaurant brands Boneheads Grilled Fish and Piri Piri Chicken has announced a new senior management team and board of directors, intended to ramp up the five-unit chains’ expansion plans.

    Boneheads franchisee Ron Barber has been appointed chairman of the board, and Beef O’Brady’s and Brass Tap chief development officer James Walker has been named to the board of directors.
