    Whole Foods Market makes its El Paso debut with a store that reflects the culture and flavor of the locale.   The 45,000-sq.-ft. store is bright and colorful, with a lively atmosphere. Individual departments stand out with their own distinctive color palette and lighting, with signage in both English and Spanish.      The space features a meeting room for community events, and an 82-seat bar and restaurant (“Thunderbird Taproom”).     
  • Two home furnishing rivals in legal battle over trade secrets

    Restoration Hardware has filed a lawsuit against Crate and Barrel, accusing the rival brand of stealing confidential information to gain a competitive edge.   Restoration Hardware claims Crate and Barrel implemented a similar strategy that features food and beverage services at certain gallery locations.   
  • PizzaRev expansion continues in Tennessee

    PizzaRev, a build-your-own fast-casual pizza concept, began its expansion into Tennessee this week with the opening of a Memphis location. The grand opening at 6450 Poplar Avenue was celebrated with an all-day fundraiser for Le Bonheur Children’s Research Hospital.   Two additional locations are under construction in Memphis, and another is underway in Nashville. PizzaRev currently franchises and operates 47 stores and has more than 200 others under development in 17 states, Washington, D.C., and Mexico.

  • Starbucks Q1 sales growth disappoints

    Starbucks posted disappointing sales growth for its first quarter, citing “a challenging environment for restaurant retailers overall.”   The coffee giant reported that its consolidated net revenues increased 7% in the quarter, ended January 1, 2017, to $5.73 billion, less than analysts had expected.

    Soaring customer expectations are creating an increasingly challenging environment for brands seeking engagement.   That’s according to the 22nd annual Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index, which recognizes the brands that receive the highest loyalty and engagement assessments and surpass competitors for "delighting" customers.  
  • Kimco completes renovation and announces new tenants

    Kimco’s $18 million renovation of Wilde Lake in Columbia, Maryland, has been completed and the mixed-use development is welcoming three new retail tenants.   Starbucks will open both a café and a drive-thru this year and Salons by JC plans a fall opening. Dynamic Dental Care opened in December. Wilde Lake has 230 residential units, 30,000 sq. ft. of office space, and 41,000 sq. ft. of retail.
