  • Hollywood & Highland Center announces new tenant openings

    Hollywood, Calif. – Four new tenants have opened at Hollywood & Highland Center – the retail, dining and entertainment venue located on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Mr. Koji’s, GNC, Sweet! Hollywood candy store and Kitson fashion boutique have all recently opened and will be joined by another group of impending openings.

    Chilli Beans, a Brazilian sunglasses retailer, is slated to open on Oct. 31; L'Occitane will open on Nov. 1; Zinzi jewelry will open Dec. 1; and Cho Oishi will open its Japanese restaurant in Feb. 2013.

  • Ross to open urban store in mixed-use center

    Peoria, Ill. -- Cullinan Properties Group, developer of the East Peoria (Ill.) Downtown development, said Friday that Ross Dress for Less will open a 25,000-sq.-ft. junior-anchor store at the mixed-use project, joining previously announced Target, Costco, Ulta and Gordman’s.

    Red Robin Gourmet Burger will open a 4,001-sq.-ft. restaurant and dental chain Heartland Dental Care will open in a 2,700-sq.-ft. space.

  • Dave & Buster's names Xbox co-creator as senior exec

    Dallas -- Dave & Buster's Inc. said Monday it has named Kevin Bachus as its senior VP entertainment and game strategy, effective immediately.

    Bachus is co-creator of the Xbox videogame console system. He joins Dave & Buster's from social network Bebo, where he was chief product officer.
     
    In the newly created Dave & Buster’s role, Bachus will be responsible for driving the evolution from on-premise-based entertainment to multi-platform gaming, including mobile and online.
     

  • Giftango and Burger King partner on digital gift card program

    Portland, Ore. -- Digital gift card provider Giftango Corp. announced Monday a partnership with Burger King Worldwide to launch the BK digital gift card program, which will allow customers to redeem BK Crown Cards from web-enabled mobile devices, including iOS 6 and Android phones, at participating U.S. Burger King restaurants.

    The digital gift cards – called BK eGifts – will be made available through a variety of channels including BK.com and will also be delivered through email, SMS text or Facebook wall posts.

     

  • Books-A-Million names human resources head

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Books-A-Million has named Mary Jane Karwoski as VP human resources. Karwoski will be responsible for overseeing employee relations, compensation, benefits, training and development and recruiting for Books-A-Million.

    “I am excited to welcome Mary Jane to the BAM team. Her impressive experience has well prepared her for this leadership role, and I know she will keep the best interest of our thousands of dedicated associates as her top priority,” said Terrance Finley, CEO and president of Books-A-Million Inc.

  • Starbucks opens first store in India

    Mumbai -- Starbucks Coffee Co. on Friday entered its 61st country with the opening of its first store in India, in a historic building in southern Mumbai. The store is owned and operated by Tata Starbucks Limited, the 50/50 joint venture between Starbucks and Tata Global Beverages Limited. The company plans to open two additional stores in Mumbai next week before launching in New Delhi in early 2013.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts to open 16 locations in Salt Lake City

    CANTON, Mass. -- Dunkin' Donuts has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with existing franchisee Sizzling Donuts, LLC for 16 new restaurants in Salt Lake City, Utah.
     
    The first restaurant is planned to open in 2013 and the remainder by 2018.
    In February 2012, Sizzling Platter, LLC formed the subsidiary Sizzling Donuts, LLC and signed their first multi-unit agreement with Dunkin' Donuts to develop 11 new restaurants in Denver, Colorado, and eight new restaurants in El Paso, Texas, over the next several years.

     

  • New mixed-use project planned for Times Square; will feature nation’s largest LED screen, retail complex and hotel tower

    New York -- Maefield Development, Infinity Urban Century, The Witkoff Group and New Valley, an investment unit of Vector Group LTD announced that they have completed the $430 million acquisition of their Times Square Gateway Center development site. The purchase clears the way for construction of a 340,000-sq.-ft., 36-story, multi-use development that will anchor the northern end of Times Square, with a new retail experience, a hotel tower, and the nation's largest single LED screen.
