  • Ex-PwC partner joins Children's Place board

    The Children’s Place has appointed an expert in financial auditing to its board.

    The compay said John E. (“Jeb”) Bachman has been named to the company’s board of directors, effective immediately. Bachman will serve as an independent Class I Director and will stand for election at the 2016 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. Bachman will serve on the audit committee.

    A major experiment is set to begin soon on the campus of the University of Arkansas that could determine how retailers use robots, also known as autonomous terrestrial drones, to make deliveries.

    Beginning April 1, London-based Starship Technologies will be turning heads on the rolling hills of the University of Arkansas campus as an important experiment gets underway to gauge human interaction with autonomous land-based vehicles.

  • Report: Hy-Vee invests $3.6 million in new training center

    Hy-Vee invested $3.6 million in a new training center for employees and to serve as a headquarters for the Hy-Vee Aisles Online, the company's online grocery division, KCCI Des Moines reported earlier this week. "We are excited to have a creative environment and innovative tools to help grow our future store leaders," stated Denise Broderick, VP education/training for Hy-Vee. "We understand that growing and improving our workforce is crucial to our company’s continued success.

  • Conn's extends and expands literacy program

    Furniture and specialty home goods retailer Conn’s is extending its Conn’s Cares philanthropic program for a second year.

    The company is partnering with First Book and Little Free Library — organizations that have been recognized by the Library of Congress for their excellence in the advancement of literacy — to expand the literacy focus of Conn’s Cares.

  • Vestar acquires retail center in Seattle area for $31.4 million

    Tacoma, Wash. -- Vestar announced that it has acquired James Center located in Tacoma, Washington, for $31.4 million.

    The 140,240 sq. ft. center is located directly across from Tacoma Community College, which enrolls nearly 14,000 students per year. James Center is anchored by Fred Meyer and Rite, as well as feature tenants: Starbucks, Subway, Verizon, Menchie’s, U.S. Bank, IHOP, FedEx Kinko’s and Ivar’s.

  • Target looks to disrupt food category

    Target Corp.’s partnership with MIT Media Lab and global design firm IDEO is bearing fruit — literally.

    In January, Target announced the launch of the Food + Future coLab, a multi-year collaboration with MIT and IDEO to explore the future of food. Although it’s only been a couple of months, Target is already testing two ideas from the coli.

  • Retail facilities veteran loses cancer fight

    Carl Nottberg, a veteran retail facilities executive, lost his battle with cancer on March 14, 2016.

    Nottberg, senior VP of development at EMCOR Facilities Services, was suffering from multiple myeloma, a relatively uncommon form of cancer that attacks the plasma cells in the bone marrow.
