Macy’s has hired a new senior leader who will oversee the company’s creative operations.

The department store retailer has hired Jason Holzman as senior VP of creative and production. He will oversee the creative (design & copy), photo studio and marketing operations team, reporting to Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer.

Holzman joins Macy’s from NBCUniversal, where he spent nearly 17 years, and most recently held the role of senior VP and head of creative for Peacock. He also led teams at NBCU responsible for the creative marketing of linear networks including USA and SYFY, as well as UCP, one of the company’s content production studios.

Holzman has also served as an adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he taught advertising. Previously, he held creative roles at BBDO and Ammirati & Puris.

Holzman's role at Macy's is designed to drive new, effective, breakthrough campaigns and ensure more integrated ways of storytelling across all channels,  Macy’s said.

“Jason brings a wealth of creative experience from consumer advertising, as well as the media and entertainment industries, and has a proven track record of innovative storytelling,” said Otterman, who joined Macy’s from Caesars Entertainment late last year. “Macy’s has a rich history of celebrating moments big and small, and we’ve added a strong storyteller to continue to tell our story. I’m excited for us to continue adding talented creative professionals to our world-class marketing organization.”

In its most recent quarter, Macy’s reported a profit of $150 million for the second quarter ended Aug. 3. Conversely, net sales fell 3.8% to $4.94 billion. Despite slipping from $5.13 billion a year ago, sales only slightly missed analyst expectations of $5.06 billion. Same-store sales also took a hit, dropping 3.3%.
