Lowe’s launches AI customer assistant

Mylow Lowe's AI chatbot
Lowe's is providing a new AI customer chatbot.

Shoppers at Lowe’s have a new artificial intelligence-based "associate" to answer questions and provide product data and project advice.

Lowe’s Companies Inc.  is introducing Mylow, a chatbot developed in partnership with Open AI, developer of the ChatGPT generative AI model and designed to deliver the same expertise as a human Lowe’s associate.

Mylow delivers quick, conversational answers to home improvement questions such as when to plant grass seed, how to measure for a new floor, what paint colors are most popular, what tools are needed for a specific type of project, and how to fix a leaky faucet.

"Home improvement is inherently complex and can feel overwhelming even for the most experienced DIYer – that's why Lowe's has invested in AI and emerging technologies to create solutions that truly help our customers," said Lowe's chief digital and information officer Seemantini Godbole. "We're aiming to deliver the best customer service in retail and Mylow represents an industry-leading step forward in helping us do that. This solution will not only help our customers be more informed, but our associates too."

Mylow can provide insights on customer projects during their product discovery, helping ensure they find and purchase the right tools and materials for their projects. Customers using Mylow can also refine their local recommendations by providing details like their project budget or ZIP code.

Lowe’s is rolling out this new AI solution a year after it partnered with Accenture and Relex to combine delivery, advisory and industry experience from Accenture with AI-driven technology from Relex to support its seasonal inventory planning.

"The development and introduction of Mylow exemplifies the tech-forward vision of the Lowe's brand," said Lowe's senior VP of technology Chandhu Nair. "We're doubling down with emerging technology collaborators like OpenAI to solve problems for our customers and because we want the home improvement experience at Lowe's to be a cut above."

Currently on desktop and mobile web, Mylow is available for MyLowe's Rewards loyalty members or by visiting the Lowe’s e-commerce site. The retailer expects to make Mylow available on its consumer app later in 2025.

Based in Mooresville, N.C., Lowe's Companies Inc. operates more than 1,700 home improvement stores across the U.S. and employs approximately 300,000 associates.
