A global British athletic retailer is AI-enabling its online search capabilities as part of a broader modernization and re-platforming initiative.

JD Sports is implementing the Algolia AI search solution in hopes of providing customers with more accurate and relevant search results on its e-commerce sites. The Algolia solution will deliver vector-based search at a much wider scale than previously available, which JD Sports expects will enable it to obtain a new set of revenue analytics and data.

The Algolia AI search rollout is a key component of JD Sports’ overarching effort to maximize revenue through retail media networks. The retailer is utilizing an application protocol interface-based strategy which enables swift adaptation and integration of diverse applications and services, so the API-first development model used by Algolia was a major consideration in its selection.

APIs also fit into JD Sports’ composable architecture, a cloud-based collection of integrated, best-of-breed solutions that communicate with each other and act as a customized technology ecosystem.

In particular, leveraging APIs within its composable strategy enables JD Sports to create modular, interchangeable components which it hopes will streamline the development process, promoting further innovation and flexibility.
