The Home Depot is expanding the reach of a partnership with Google Cloud that began in 2015.

The world’s largest home improvement retailer will now utilize Google Cloud's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in the enterprise areas of customer experience and operations.

As a result, Home Depot is leveraging cloud-based Google AI technologies like machine learning (ML), computer vision, and generative AI to enhance the retailer’s inventory management operations and improve its overall supply chain efficiency.

In addition, Home Depot plans to roll out Google Cloud technologies in the future to enable greater digital scalability. The retailer will utilize Google tools such as the Vertex AI innovation platform, advanced model training capabilities and advanced data analytics, which it hopes will reveal deeper insights into customer preferences and needs.

“As one of the first major retailers to migrate our website to the cloud, Google has been a critical partner as we have built an interconnected shopping experience for our customers," said Fahim Siddiqui, executive VP and CIO of The Home Depot. "Our technology team looks forward to continuing to work closely with Google to remove friction for our customers when they shop with us and to stay on the cutting edge of retail technology."

"The Home Depot consistently puts customers at the center of its technology transformation, and it is also redefining what it means to equip employees with powerful tools that get the job done," said Matt Renner, president of Google Cloud. "Google Cloud is proud to support The Home Depot’s strategic technology initiatives, with projects on the horizon that will help it continue to lead the industry in AI-powered cloud innovation."

Home Depot deploys Google Cloud across the enterprise

Since it first partnered with Google for cloud technology in 2015 and then extended the collaboration in 2021, has leveraged Google Cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data analytics to support  a wide variety of initiatives.

These include the retailer’s Sidekick proprietary employee app, and its customer shopping app, use of the BigQuery database to analyze data for better decisions, rollout of an enhanced search capability called Intent Search, and handling a doubling of online sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Headquartered in Atlanta, The Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement specialty retailer. At the end of fiscal year 2023, the company operated a total of 2,335 retail stores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, 10 Canadian provinces and Mexico.
