DoorDash teams with Waymo in latest autonomous delivery pilot
DoorDash Inc. is testing the use of self-driving vehicles for deliveries in a major Southwest market.
The global on-demand delivery platform is piloting an autonomous delivery service in the metro Phoenix area with Waymo, the Google self-driving vehicle subsidiary. Testing of the service in metro Phoenix is now underway, with plans to launch broader commercial operations later in 2025.
DoorDash customers in the area may be matched with a fully autonomous Waymo vehicle for deliveries from participating retailers. The service will begin with deliveries from DashMart, DoorDash’s owned and operated convenience, grocery, and retail store, with plans to expand over time.

"DashPass is designed to give consumers consistent value, convenience, and access to the best of their communities, and our partnership with Waymo builds on that promise," said David Richter, VP of business and corporate development at DoorDash. "Together, we’re giving members access to, and savings on, a new and delightful experience, while advancing our vision for a multi-modal autonomous future of local commerce."
In addition, through the end of 2025, members of the DoorDash DashPass paid subscription service in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix can receive $10 off one Waymo ride per month. A new promotion code will be issued at the start of each month through Dec. 31, 2025.
"We are excited to make everyday errands easier with the Waymo driver, offering the added peace of mind that comes with our safe and reliable technology," said Nicole Gavel, head of business development and strategic partnerships at Waymo. "Through our partnership with DoorDash, we leverage our proven delivery experience to provide customers with a seamless, contact-free way to get items they need, whether it’s groceries or a quick bite."
According to DoorDash, this partnership reflects its broader autonomous delivery platform strategy, which integrates human drivers, drones and autonomous robots in an effort to meet increasing demand while lowering emissions and traffic congestion.
In one example of this strategy, DoorDash recently launched "Dot," an in-house-developed autonomous robot built to travel on bike lanes, roads, sidewalks and driveways that is specifically designed for local delivery.
And in April 2025, DoorDash expanded a pilot its international arm Wolt had been running in Helsinki, Finland with emissions-free Coco Robotics sidewalk delivery robots to Los Angeles and Chicago.
The company also recently partnered to have some orders in Los Angeles delivered by an autonomous delivery robot from Serve Robotics, which was spun off from Uber Technologies as an independent company in 2021.
DoorDash also enables select local consumers in Christianburg, Va. to order eligible menu items from Wendy’s and have them delivered via drones from Wing, the on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google parent company Alphabet.
This pilot followed a test program DoorDash and Wing launched in Australia in 2022 and has since expanded to three locations with over 60 participating retailers, marking the first time that Wing integrated its drone delivery service within another on-demand delivery marketplace.
Since its founding in 2013, DoorDash has expanded to more than 40 countries.
