DoorDash launches drone delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth with new partner
DoorDash is expanding both the reach of its drone delivery offering and the range of drone technology providers it collaborates with.
The on-demand delivery platform is moving a drone delivery service in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from pilot to full-scale operation. Partnering with end-to-end drone delivery company Flytrex, DoorDash is enabling consumers in parts of Little Elm and Frisco, Texas to order food from dozens of local and national restaurants, including Papa Johns and The Brass Tap, between 8 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. CT, with delivery via Flytrex’s autonomous drone fleet.
This joint effort marks Flytrex’s first third-party app integration, enabling customers to place orders directly through the DoorDash app. Eligible customers can select drone delivery at checkout, with orders prepared at restaurants and flown to their homes.
The service currently reaches over 30,000 households and more than 100,000 residents, with additional Dallas-Fort Worth sites launching soon. Flytrex drones can carry up to 6.6 pounds and next-generation models will increase capacity to 8.8 pounds.
Flytrex has also implemented advanced drone traffic control technology, enabling multiple drone operators to serve overlapping communities while safely managing flight paths through automated systems, an innovation that broadens suburban coverage.
DoorDash initially launched drone delivery with Wing, the on-demand drone delivery provider supported by Google parent company Alphabet. in Australia in 2022. In March 2024, DoorDash began allowing select local consumers in Christianburg, Va. to order eligible menu items from Wendy’s and have them delivered via drones from Wing.
DoorDash followed this in December 2024 with a partnership to provide delivery of purchases from Brookfield Properties’ Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth using Wing drones.
In May 2025, DoorDash began providing delivery via Wing drone from a selection of local and national restaurants at The Arboretum Shopping Center in Charlotte, N.C. to eligible customers.

The DoorDash-Flytrex partnership stems from DoorDash Labs, the company’s robotics and automation division, which focuses on identifying and integrating autonomous solutions.
