  • Golfsmith names CEO

    Austin, Texas — Golfsmith International has named Sue E. Gove president and CEO.

    Gove, formerly president and COO of the combined Golfsmith and Golf Town business, has also served as the chief integration officer leading the successful Golfsmith-Golf Town combination, which was finalized this past July. Marty Hanaka, the previous CEO, will serve in an advisory role through the end of this year.

  • Zale loss narrows; to close small number of underperforming units

    Dallas -- Zale Corp reported a narrower third-quarter loss on Wednesday.

    Zale’s net loss narrowed by about a half to $4.5 million in the third quarter ended April 30, from $9 million a year ago.

    Revenues for the quarter ended April 30, 2012 rose 8.1% to $445 million, compared with $412 million in the same period last year. Same-store sales increased 8%.

  • Study: Retail employee turnover increasing

    Philadelphia -- Management consulting firm Hay Group reported Tuesday that employee turnover levels in the retail industry are on the rise.

    According to a new survey from Hay Group, an improving job market and solid first quarter sales are impacting turnover. Retailers report a median turnover rate of 67% for part-time store workers, a 33% increase over 2011. One in five retailers report that they have experienced more turnover in the first part of 2012.

  • Zale chief joins Express board

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — Express has named Theo Killion has been appointed to its board of directors as a Class III director.  Killion is CEO and a director of Zale Corp.  

  • Zale appoints GM of Piercing Pagoda kiosk division

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. said Tuesday that it has named Jamie Singleton as senior VP and general manager of Piercing Pagoda, effective March 27.

    Singleton is charged with overall responsibility for the company’s kiosk business and will report to Theo Killion, CEO.

    Singleton most recently served as senior VP business expansion at CPI Corp.

  • Zale names head of Piercing Pagoda

    DALLAS — Zale Corp. has named Jamie Singleton SVP and general manager of Piercing Pagoda, effective March 27. In this role, Singleton will have overall responsibility for the company’s kiosk business and will report to Theo Killion, CEO.

  • Zale reports higher Q2 profit

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. posted a higher second quarter profit helped by a surge in holiday sales. Net profit rose to $28.8 million, from $27.2 million a year ago.

    Overall revenue rose 6% to $663.8 million. Same-store sales rose 5.8%.
