  • Zale holiday sales lag

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. reported Tuesday that same-store sales for the holiday selling season of November and December 2011 rose 5.9%, compared with an 8.5% gain in the same period last year.

    Within the two-month period, same-store store sales increased 10.1% in November and 4.2% in December.

    Revenues for the two-month period were $564 million, compared with $533 million in the same period last year, an increase of 5.8%.

  • Zale appoints new real estate head

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. said Monday it has appointed Subha Ramesh as senior VP real estate, effective immediately.

    Ramesh, who will report to chief administrative officer Matt Appel, was previously senior VP of Hilco Real Estate. Prior to that, she spent eight years at Limited Brands as senior VP real estate and as VP real estate for Intimate Brands.

    Zale announced the new alternative financing program on Aug. 31, which is currently available in all Zales, Zales Outlet and Gordon’s retail stores.

  • Zale names CFO

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. said Wednesday that it has named Thomas A. Haubenstricker as senior VP and CFO, effective Oct. 17.

    Haubenstricker joins Zale from Turnberry Advisors where he served as a managing director.

  • Zale names new CIO

    DALLAS — Zale Corp. announced that Brad Furry has been named SVP, CIO. Furry will have responsibility for all information technology strategy and operations functions throughout the company. He will report to Matt Appel, chief administrative officer and CFO.

    “We are pleased to welcome Brad to the Zale team. Brad has a demonstrated track record of leveraging information technology in a retail environment,” said Matt Appel. “I am confident he will elevate the impact of technology on our efforts to return the company to profitability.”

  • Zale loss widens on higher costs but beats Street; adds credit options

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. reported Wednesday that its loss for the quarter ended July 31 widened to $32.6 million from $28.5 million a year earlier. Its results were impacted by increased inventory charges and absent a one-time gain recorded a year ago.

    Revenue rose 9% to $377.3 million, compared with $345 million in the year-ago period. Wall Street expected higher losses on revenue of $360.4 million.

    Same-store sales increased 9.8% in the quarter.
