  • PetSmart accelerates omnichannel efforts with new hire

    PetSmart has named Phil Bowman as EVP of customer experience, effective June 30. He will report directly to president and CEO David Lenhardt.

    Bowman has extensive experience in brand building, digital marketing, e-commerce and customer data analytics, as well as the creation of an integrated customer experience. Most recently, he served as chief marketing officer at TD Ameritrade, one of the world’s largest online securities brokerage companies.

  • Retail design firm Miller Zell turns 50

    Miller Zell, a retail design and implementation firm headquartered in Atlanta, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

    Harmon B. “Sandy” Miller founded Miller Zell in 1964 as a printing firm focused on point-of-sale promotions and fulfillment. As the retail landscape changed, Miller Zell evolved to offer comprehensive store design services aimed at improving the customer experience, while controlling implementation costs and creating greater efficiency throughout the production, storage and installation process.
     

  • AutoZone adds new board members

    Brinker International chairman Doug Brooks and First Horizon National Corp. CEO Bryan Jordan were elected to the AutoZone board of directors.

    The addition of Brooks and Jordan give AutoZone a total of 11 board members. The company is due to report fourth quarter financial results on September 25.

  • Report: Consumer spending rises more than expected

    Washington, D.C. -- A report released Monday by the Commerce Dept. said that March consumer spending in the U.S. advanced more than forecast – rising 0.2% after a 0.7% increase in February.

  • Target lowers Q1 sales and profit forecast

    Softer than expected sales trends prompted Target to lower its first quarter earnings outlook Tuesday morning.

    The company said it now expects first quarter comps to be flat, after previously forecasting a range of flat to 2% growth. The softer than expected sales prompted the company to revise first quarter adjusted profit expectations to an unspecified level of "slightly below" earlier guidance of $1.10 to $1.20.

  • Consumer confidence falls to nine-month low

    New York -- A report released Friday found that confidence among American consumers declined in April to a nine-month low. The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary index of consumer sentiment declined to 72.3 in April from 78.6 a month earlier, lower than Bloomberg’s earlier estimates that called for a flat reading.

    The decline reflects consumer pessimism about the economy and continuing effects from the increased payroll tax.

  • Kennedy assumes new finance role at Target

    Scott Kennedy was named president of Target financial and retail service to replace long time finance executive Terry Scully.

    Scully spent nearly 35 years with Target and is moving into a strategic advisory role to ensure the smooth transition of the recently sold credit card portfolio to TD Bank Group. Scully, 60, will officially retire in March 2014. Filling his shoes as head of financial and retail services is Scott Kennedy, 44. He joined Target in 2005 and currently serves as VP of pay and benefits.

  • Target completes sale of credit card portfolio to TD Bank

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. said it has completed the sale of its entire consumer credit card portfolio to TD Bank Group for $5.7 billion, the gross value of the outstanding receivables at the time of closing.
     

  • Pilgrim Furniture City expands partnership with TD Retail Card Services

    Mahwah, N.J. -- Connecticut retailer Pilgrim Furniture City has expanded its relationship with TD Retail Card Services, moving from the company’s Renovate Card program to a branded private label card created specifically for Pilgrim customers.
