  • In line and on track, Target likes 2Q

    MINNEAPOLIS — July same-store sales at Target increased 3.1%, in line with the company’s guidance.

    Target credited an increase in average transaction size as the primary driver of a 3.1% same-store sales increase during the July reporting period. An increase in the number of transactions also contributed to a 3.1% gain that was in-line with the company’s guidance for a low to mid single digit increase on top of a July 2011 increase of 4.1%.

  • Jones Lang LaSalle to lease/manage Centre at Glen Burnie

    Glen Burnie, Md. -- Jones Lang LaSalle said that it has been awarded the leasing and management of Centre at Glen Burnie, a 419,858-sq.-ft. retail center located in Glen Burnie, Md.

    Developed in 1963, the Centre at Glen Burnie is 85% leased and anchored by Target, Hhgregg, Office Depot, Dick's Sporting Goods and Toys R Us.  Other tenants include Chick-fil-A, FootLocker, GNC, Payless ShoeSource, Radio Shack, Five Guys, Famous Footwear and Dots.

    NEW YORK — Many retailers reported better-than-expected results in July as warm weather and clearance sales drew shoppers into stores. Thomson Reuters reported that three-quarters of retailers reported results beat expectations. Costco Wholesale Corp., Target Corp., Limited Brands and Gap Inc. all reported gains above expectations.

  • Land's End names finance head

    DODGEVILLE, Wis. — Lands’ End has named Michael Rosera as chief operating and finance officer. In his role he is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, legal, information technology and integrated company planning. As the leader of finance and operations and a member of the executive team, Rosera reports directly to Edgar Huber, CEO and president of Lands’ End.

  • Target among top 10 cash donors

    The Chronicle of Philanthropy is out with its ranking of the leading charitable donors and Target ranked eighth in 2011.

    Target donated $146 million in cash and $63 million worth of products last year, according the Chronicle. It is a significant sum that and equates to roughly 4.7% of the retailer’s pretax profits.

  • Target friends Facebook for back-to-school campaign

    Target is engaging Facebook to help determine how half of a $5 million back-to-school donation is allocated.

    The retailer plans to donate $5 million to schools as part of its “Give With Target” initiative this fall. The two-part giving campaign provides $2.5 million in grants to in-need schools, as well as up to $2.5 million in Target GiftCards to local schools through votes on Target’s Facebook page.

    PALO ALTO, Calif. — Retail shopping app, Shopkick has named Alexis Rask as its new VP and general manager brand partnerships. As the head of Shopkick's newest business unit, Rask is tasked with leading and further developing shopkick's relationship with major brands in the CPG, consumer electronics, entertainment, toy/game, financial services and automotive verticals.
