  • Lowe’s Canada to pick up 13 Target leases, distribution center

    Toronto - Lowe's Canada has reached an agreement to acquire the leases of 13 former Target Canada locations and to purchase Target's distribution center in Milton, Ontario, for a total purchase price of about $125 million. This acquisition came as part of a real estate auction following Target's decision to cease operations in Canada.

  • Report: Judge won’t block Target-MasterCard settlement

    New York – Despite some reservations, a federal judge is reportedly refusing to block a proposed settlement between Target Corp. and MasterCard related to the retailer’s 2013 data breach. According to Reuters, U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson in St. Paul, Minnesota declined a request from a group of banks and credit unions to rule against the $19 million settlement.

  • Walmart to acquire only 13 Target locations in Canada

    When Target pulled out of Canada, it was widely expected that Walmart would snap up some of Target's locations. But Walmart has decided to acquire only 13 stores, in a deal worth $136 million.

    Walmart announced it has reached agreements to acquire one distribution center, 12 store leases and one owned property in Canada. The retailer says it expects to invest another $153 million to renovate the 13 stores and distribution center, bringing Walmart’s total investment to approximately $289 million.

  • Whole Foods to debut new store concept in 2016 targeting millenials

    Austin, Texas -- Whole Foods Market on Wednesday announced plans to debut a new store format targeted at millenials. The company said the stores are expected to begin opening next year, and the expansion will be “fairly rapid.” It did not reveal the name of the new banner.

  • Canadian Tire acquires 12 Target leases

    Toronto -- Canadian Tire Corp. has concluded an agreement to acquire 12 real estate leases formerly held by Target Canada for $17.7 million. The transaction is subject to the approval of the court in connection with Target Canada's CCAA proceedings.

  • Report: Target returns 55 Canada leases

    Mississauga, Canada – Target Corp.’s exit from Canada is reportedly not turning out as smoothly as the retailer had hoped. According to the Toronto Globe and Mail, Target is returning 55 leases it could not find a bidder for to their landlords.

    Target is also returning 19 leases for office and warehouse space in Canada. The company operated a total of 133 stores in Canada; meaning about 40% of the store leases did not attract bidders.
