  • Final anchor to open in Port Arthur redevelopment project

    Baker Katz announced that the 90,000 sq. ft. multi-tenant center redevelopment project in Port Arthur, Texas is complete with the opening of PetSmart.

    The former Sutherlands Hardware was transformed into a multi-tenant retail center with the addition of national anchor tenants, including Hobby Lobby, PetSmart and Party City. Chipotle, Firehouse Subs and Gulfside Dental, are scheduled to open by early 2016, will occupy a 7,000 sq. ft. building in the foreground of the project.

    Retailers wondering who among their peers is an omnichannel leader have an answer.

    The new Omnichannel Retail Index from the National Retail Federation and e-digital consultancy FitforCommerce identifies the top performers among 120 retailers in several key areas of omnichannel commerce. The areas include showing in-store product availability, multidevice/platform shopping experience, email and loyalty marketing programs, delivery to customer, and customer returns.

  • Englewood Construction announces three new retail projects

    Englewood Construction has started working on three new ground-up retail projects.

    The national general contractor is building a Hobby Lobby in Beavercreek, Ohio; a PetSmart in Taylor, Michigan; and a Goodwill in Monroe, Connecticut.

    Englewood recently broke ground on a 55,000-sq.-ft. ground-up Hobby Lobby store in Beavercreek, Ohio. Slated for completion by the end of January 2016, the project will use tilt-up construction of masonry embossed panels. Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Robert Michael Hughes is the project architect.

    When it comes to satisfying online customers, the little guys may have an edge. Online review site Bizrate Insights (a division of marketing solutions firm Connexity) has released its 16th annual Bizrate Circle of Excellence awards, and only a few major retailers are included.

  • Off-price fashion retailer to join St. Georges Crossing

    Woodbridge, N.J. -- Levin Management announced that T.J.Maxx has joined St. Georges Crossing in Woodbridge, New Jersey. The 23,000 sq. ft. free-standing T.J.Maxx store will anchor the fully leased, 340,000 sq. ft. shopping center.

    St. Georges Crossing is located at the intersection of Routes 1 & 9 and 35. The center includes a mix of retail, restaurant and service tenants: ShopRite, P.C. Richard & Son, PetSmart and Pier 1 Imports, Golf Galaxy, AutoZone, Bertucci’s and Wine Country.

  • PetSmart names grocery exec CFO

    Former Save-A-Lot CFO Rob Anderson has joined PetSmart as CFO.

    Anderson assumes his new role at the nation’s largest pet specialty retailer on Oct. 5 amid rumors that PetSmart and Petco are exploring a merger. Anderson is a veteran financial executive who most recently served as CFO of the $4.8 billion discount grocery chain Save-A-Lot.

    The two biggest specialty pet retailers in the U.S. may merge. According to Reuters, Petco Holdings Inc. is considering a possible acquisition from chief rival PetSmart Inc.

  • PetSmart, Google Express expanding relationship

    Phoenix -- PetSmart is making it faster for customers to get the goods they need to take care of their pets.

    In partnership with Google Express, PetSmart is adding overnight service in Chicagoland and a five-state Midwest region (120-mile radius from Chicago) in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio, serving 25 million people.

    The two firms have been serving the on-demand delivery needs of customers for nearly a year with same-day service in six cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago and D.C.
