  • Former Walmart exec to lead SpartanNash supply chain

    A grocery distributor and retailer is expanding its supply chain management team.   SpartanNash named Tom Lee as senior VP, supply chain. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing SpartanNash’s supply chain, logistics, transportation and inventory management departments.   
  • Office supplies giant sells another international unit

    Office Depot continues to make good on its promise to focus on its North American business.     The retailer said it has closed on the sale of its business in South Korea to Excelsior Capital Asia, a Hong Kong- and Korea-based direct investment firm. Excelsior invests throughout Asia on behalf of major Korean institutions, pension funds and private family offices.  
  • Office supplies chain sheds more of its international businesses

    Office Depot continues to make good on its promise to focus on its North American business.     The company announced it has reached an agreement to sell its business in Australia and New Zealand to Platinum Equity, a global private equity firm. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval in each country and is expected to close within the next several months.  
  • Report: Staples in talks with buyout firms

    Is Staples looking to go private?   Less than a year after its deal to acquire Office Depot Inc. fell through due to antitrust concerns, Staples is in early discussions with private-equity bidders, according to The Wall Street Journal.   Staples had no comment on the report, which said that based on typical takeover premiums, the office supply chain could be valued at roughly $7 billion or more. But the news sent its stock soaring to a four-year high on Tuesday morning

  • Survey reveals retailers with best customer experience

    Three very different retailers earned the top score in a survey of customer experience.   Ace Hardware, BJ's Wholesale Club, and QVC deliver the best customer experience in the retail industry, according to the 2017 Temkin Experience Ratings, an annual customer experience ranking of companies based on a survey of 10,000 U.S. consumers.   
  • Office supply giant names tech exec as new CEO

    Office Depot has named a successor to CEO Roland Smith, who previously announced his intention to retire from the company. The company also named a new chairman.    The retailer has appointed Gerry P. Smith as CEO, effective Feb. 27. Smith currently serves as executive VP and COO of Lenovo Group, a $45 billion global technology company.
