  • Five Below to open its first Brooklyn store

    Philadelphia -- Extreme-value retailer Five Below will open its first Brooklyn location on Aug. 29, at the Gateway Center.

    The 7,500-sq.-ft. store location will feature the company's signature format, with all merchandise priced at $5 and below and grouped into one of eight store departments: Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Crafts, Party, Candy and Now.

    Five Below plans to open additional stores in Brooklyn in the next few years.

     

  • Walgreens gets ready for Charity Classic golf event in November

    The Walgreens Charity Classic, presented by the Seagate Country Club, is set for Nov. 6 to 9, 2014 in Delray Beach, the Country Club announced Friday. The Charity Classic will showcase the talents of 48 former LPGA Tour stars now playing the Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA.

    The four-day event will also raise funds for three area charities: The Dan Marino Foundation, Achievement Centers for Children & Families and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse.
     

  • Toys'R'Us rolls out #LetsPlay campaign

    Toys"R"Us is unveiling a new hashtag — #LetsPlay — for its latest ad campaign, which features traditional television spots. The retailer will also be leveraging Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and The Toys"R"Us YouTube Channel to share 'C'mon, Let's Play' content, including commercial clips, behind-the-scenes photos and video from the campaign shoot.

    The strategy includes a cross-platform presence on desktop, mobile and tablet with premier placements on Hulu and Hulu Plus.

  • Westchester’s Ridge Hill to offer interactive Dreamworks Santa exhibit

    Brooklyn, N.Y. - Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC), owner and developer of Westchester’s Ridge Hill, will host DreamPlace, an interactive Santa adventure. DreamWorks Animation has chosen Westchester’s Ridge Hill as one of just seven locations around the country, and the only one in the Northeast during the 2014 holiday season.

    New York -- J.C. Penney has teamed up with NBC’s “Today Show” to display five mannequins created in the image of real Americans in the windows of its store in Manhattan. The mannequins, which include a model of woman in a wheelchair and a male double-leg amputee, were made by Fusion Specialties, Broomfield, Colorado.

  • Hobby Lobby prevails in battle against Obamacare

    The Arts and Crafts retailer went to the mat over its religious convictions, and on Monday the U.S. Supreme Court sided with the privately held company in a rebuke of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.
     
    Hobby Lobby co-founder Barbara Green said her family was overjoyed by the Supreme Court’s decision.
