Slow new software sales play down GameStop comps
GRAPEVINE, Texas — GameStop reported that total sales for the third quarter of 2011 were $1.95 billion, an increase of 2.5% compared with $1.9 billion in the prior year quarter. Total company comparable-store sales were down 0.6%, primarily impacted by lower-than-expected sales of new software. GameStop’s digital sales showed continued strength, increasing 59%, with console digital growing 63% and PC digital growing 51%. Pre-owned sales increased 3.1%.

OfficeMax names new chief digital officer
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — OfficeMax announced that it has appointed Jim Barr as EVP and chief digital officer, effective Nov. 14. Barr will report to Ravi Saligram, president and CEO of OfficeMax, and will be responsible for all aspects of the company's e-commerce business and for driving its multi-channel digital strategy.
Barr has been working with the OfficeMax e-commerce business in an advisory capacity since July 2011 to assess the opportunities for the business and develop a strategy to maximize its potential.
