    Famous Footwear wants to get merchandise into its shoppers’ hands faster.   By rolling out an in-store pickup service chainwide, Famous Footwear’s online shoppers now have the option of picking up their orders in more than 1,000 locations. To encourage shoppers to try the service, the retailer is offering customers that shop between July 7 through July 11, a $5 discount off of one order containing an in-store pickup item.

    Caleres has made two executive appointment in its Famous Footwear division.   The company named Karlyn Mattson as chief merchandising officer, leading Famous Footwear’s buying, merchandising, planning, allocation and analytic functions.     Mattson joins Caleres from a 25-year career at Target Corp., where she was most recently VP merchandise manager of shoes, accessories and intimate Apparel for retail and online. She held leadership positions at May Company and Macy’s.

  • Brown Shoe’s Q4 profit rises; cautious in outlook

    Clayton, Mo. -- Increased sales at its Famous Footwear division and the sale of its shoes.com online site, helped boost Brown Shoe Company’ profit in the fourth quarter.  

    The retailer reported net earnings of $16.2 million, which included adjustments related to the sale of Shoes.com, compared with $6.2 million in the year-ago period. Adjusted net earnings were $9 million.

    Consolidated net sales in the quarter, ended Jan. 31, totaled $615.4 million, up 2.6% from year-ago period. Same-store sales increased 4%.

    Famous Footwear parent company Brown Shoe said it believes stepped up omnichannel efforts will drive sales this back-to-school season sales after reporting better than expected second quarter results.
