  • Wet Seal turns to Demandware to improve digital platform

    BURLINGTON, Mass. — Specialty retailer Wet Seal has signed on with Demandware to use the cloud commerce solutions provider’s commerce platform as a component of its e-commerce and digital marketing strategy. 

    Wet Seal is looking to leverage the platform’s offerings — which according to Demandware include fast time-to-market, a rich set of merchandising capabilities and a secure, scalable environment to support omnichannel operations — to provide customers with optimal online and mobile shopping services.

  • Overstock.com new ads are Snoopified

    SALT LAKE CITY — Utah-based online retailer Overstock.com has a fresh round of TV ads, and they feature Snoop Lion (formerly known as Snoop Dogg), his wife, Shante, his daughter, Cori, and his sons, Corde and Cordell. 

    The ads depict Snoop using Overstock.com to find products that solve his wife and kids' most pressing problems.

  • HSN’s Grossman delivers NEW accountability message

    The state of gender equality among senior executive and in boardrooms is abysmal and “leaning in” isn’t enough to fix it, HSN CEO Mindy Grossman told a group of 300 retail and CPG executives recently.

    Grossman was a featured speaker at the annual Network of Executive Women (NEW) Executive Leaders Forum in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., last week. According to Grossman, woman “can lean in for the next 30 years and it will not be enough unless we hold boards and CEOs accountable."

  • Starbucks serves tasty Q3 results as profit rises 25%

    Seattle — Starbucks Corp. reported strong results for third quarter fiscal 2013, with net revenues, same-store sales and operating income all increasing substantially from the same quarter a year earlier.

    Net earnings grew 25%, from $333.1 million to $417.8 million.

    Net revenues totaled about $3.7 billion, up 13% from $3.3 billion. Same-store sales increased 8% globally, driven by 9% growth in U.S. stores.

  • Former Hershey CEO named IRI chairman

    Veteran CPG industry executive Richard Lenny was named chairman of the board at Information Resources, Inc., filling the position previously held by Lawrence Benjamin who will remain on the board.

    Lenny previously served as chairman, president and CEO of The Hershey Company and also served as group vice president of Kraft Food and president of Nabisco Biscuit and Snacks. Prior to that he was president of Pillsbury, North America and spent 18 years with Kraft prior to that.
