    PREIT announced that it has fully leased the space vacated by Sears at Magnolia Mall, nine months after the store closed shop at the Florence, South Carolina, property.   Burlington opens in a 46,000-sq.-ft. space there this week. It will be joined by HomeGoods (20,000 sq. ft.) and Five Below (8,500 sq. ft.) in the spring. Also slated to open at that time is a 20,000-sq.-ft. H&M store.  
  • PREIT’s version of ‘That’s Entertainment’

    Dining and entertainment square footage continues to replace that of department stores in PREIT’s mall portfolio.   Last week the Philadelphia-based developer announced that it had signed leases to fill vacated Sears space at two of its properties. Five Below and an unnamed off-price furniture retailer will join Burlington in the former Sears at the Magnolia Mall in Florence, South Carolina.

    Sears is freshening up its offering through a new partnership.   The department store retailer now features the Regatta Great Outdoors collection in 11 New England-based stores. The brand, which is based in Manchester, England, features active, performance, outdoor, and leisure wear. This is the brand’s first U.S. retail store debut.  
  • Off-price retailer posts strong Q1

    As many mall-based specialty retailers continue to struggle, off-pricers continue to flourish and expand. And Burlington Stores is no exception.   Burlington's net income in the quarter, ended April 29, increased to $52.4 million, or $.73 per diluted share, which beat Wall Street expectations of 70 cents. In the year-ago period, the retailer reported net income of $37.5 million.
