  • American Express launches Target prepaid card

    New York City -- American Express announced Tuesday that it has launched Target prepaid cards featuring email and text alerts.

    The cards, sold exclusively at Target stores, work like debit cards and can be reloaded with cash, and are usually marketed to lower-income consumers who don't have credit cards or checking accounts. Fees on cards can range widely depending on the issuer.

  • Totsy names new CTO and creative director

    NEW YORK —Totsy, a private sales site dedicated to offering exclusive deals to parents, babies and children, announced that it has named a new chief technology officer and a new creative director.

    The company has appointed Richard Minns as chief technology officer. Minns brings 15 years of corporate experience in technology and e-commerce, most recently from 1800FLOWERS.com.

  • Neiman Marcus to accept Visa and MasterCard

    Dallas -- Neiman Marcus announced Thursday that it had entered into agreements with Visa and MasterCard to begin, effective Nov. 1, accepting MasterCard and Visa credit, debit and prepaid cards at all 41 Neiman Marcus stores.

    The luxury retailer had long been criticized for accepting only its private-label credit cards, American Express and cash.

    "We listened to our customers and heard that they wanted more flexibility in their payment choices," said Karen Katz, president and CEO, Neiman Marcus.

  • American Express survey finds some small business owners believe U.S. still in recession

    New York City -- Research results released Tuesday by American Express found that more than a third (38%) of small business owners believe that the U.S. is still in the throes of a recession.

    According to the American Express OPEN Small Business Monitor, a semi-annual survey in its 10th year, concerns about the economy are weighing heavily on entrepreneurs. Twenty-seven percent say they do not plan to grow in the next six months (up from 21% in the spring) and just 77% describe themselves as glass-half-full optimists (down from 85% a year ago).

    New York City -- American Express announced it is launching American Express Merchant Financing, a program that provides qualified merchants with quick and simple access to cash for their business needs. The launch comes as small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) struggle with access to capital in today’s tight credit economy.
