  • Fashion Outlets of Chicago eyes expansion

    Macerich is pursuing an option to acquire land in Rosemont, Illinois, to allow it to expand its Fashion Outlets of Chicago mall there, according to the local Daily Herald.   Rosemont authorities told the news site that Macerich could draft an option agreement within the next 60 days that would give it right of first refusal on a village-owned lot east of the shopping center that currently houses The Rosemont Theatre.  
  • Luxury department store retailer in Fort Worth opening

    Neiman Marcus will unveil its relocated store in Fort Worth, Texas, at The Shops at Clearfork, on Feb. 10.    The nearly 95,000-sq.-ft. store is the anchor tenant — and first to open — at the new upscale open-air center, which is being developed by Simon Property Group.    The new Neiman Marcus blends a modern, luxurious design with state-of-the art technology and an array of special services.  
  • Torrid to open stores in five Cafaro malls

    Women’s plus-size retailer Torrid will open locations in five Cafaro Malls: Eastwood Mall (Niles, Ohio); Governor’s Square Mall (Clarksville, Tennessee); Huntington Mall (Barboursville, West Virginia), Millcreek Mall (Erie, Pennsylvania); and Spotsylvania Towne Centre (Fredericksburg, Virginia).     The 3,500-sq.-ft. stores are all expected to be up and running by June. Torrid, founded in 2001, operates more than 400 locations across 36 states.  
  • Zara and MAC to join luxury lineup at Brickell City Centre

    Swire Properties has announced the addition of Zara and MAC Cosmetics to its 500,000-sq.-ft., open-air collection of luxury retailers and gourmet food option in Miami’s Brickell City Centre. Both stores look toward a fall opening.  
  • Maryland community anxiously awaits mall’s replacement

    "It makes me feel really, really sad. I hate to even go up that way. Sometimes I go up that way because I go to the movie theater and I got to ride by it, and it's just heartbreaking, and to see the mall gone,” Owings Mills, Maryland resident Glenn Watlingon told WMAR-TV about the demolition of the Owings Mills Mall.   
  • Southampton locals rally behind shopping center

    Some 100 locals from tony Southampton, New York, gathered outside Town Hall yesterday to show their support for the building of a grocery-anchored center in the Tuckahoe neighborhood, according to Newsday.   Demonstrators wearing “Yes Tuckahoe Shopping Center” T-shirts argued that the King Kullen supermarket proposed for the project would give them easier access to affordable groceries.

The store will be the focus of a session at Chain Store Age’s upcoming SPECS conference (March 12-14, at the Gaylord Palms, Kissimmee, Florida).      
  • Warby Parker in store expansion

    Warby Parker is making a big commitment to brick-and-mortar.    The hip eyewear retailer plans to open at least 25 stores this year, The Wall Street Journal reported.   The new locations, planned for Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and other cities, are expected to bring Warby Parker’s total store count to about 70 by year end.    The stores will range in size and include freestanding as well as mall locations, the report said. 
  • Apple to double size of Fifth Avenue flagship

    Apple is going really big in Manhattan.   The retailer is expanding its flagship at the General Motors building on Fifth Avenue from its current 32,000-sq.-ft. to over 77,000 sq. ft. The Apple space is renowned for the glass cube located on the street level.    While the store is undergoing the expansion, Apple has temporarily moved into a space in the building that was formerly occupied by FAO Schwarz.
