Nordstrom announced the second Big Apple location for its off-price division.   Nordstrom Rack will open at Durst Organization's mixed-use building at 855 Sixth Avenue.    The approximately 46,500-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2017. It occupy the first three floors of the newly constructed office/residential tower. The location is on the corner of 31st Street, two blocks from Herald Square.  

Lidl is coming out of the starting gate in the United States earlier than expected — and it isn’t going to waste any time ramping up its store base.   The discount grocer will open its first U.S. stores this summer, with plans to open up to 100 locations across the East Coast within a year, the Associated Press reported. The chain initially had said it planned to enter the U.S. market no later than 2018.    

Burlington has been announced as the replacement for Sears at PREIT’s Magnolia Mall in Florence, South Carolina. Earlier this month, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Von Maur were introduced as new tenants of Sears spaces that had been recaptured by the Philadelphia-based developer.  

The online retailer is expanding its presence in California.   Amazon has pre-leased an additional one million sq. ft. of logistics space from Goodman Commerce Center Eastvale, California, according to a statement by Goodman. Goodman will construct the logistics center for Amazon.  

Dick’s Sporting Goods is putting two of its formats under one roof in the Austin, Texas, market.   The retailer will open a Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream store on Friday, March 3 at The Parke in Cedar Park, Texas. It will be Dick’s 677th store and 29th Field & Stream store nationwide.    There are currently three other Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in Austin.  

CBL & Associates has named Curt Hammontree VP of development. In nearly 18 years with the company, he has worked on 18 mall and outlet developments, the most recent being an outlet project in Laredo, Texas.   “Curt has been a valuable contributor to CBL’s successful development,” said president and CEO Stephen Lebovitz. “We are pleased to be able to recognize his many achievements with this promotion.”  

These are tough times for outdoor/sporting goods retailers.   Gander Mountain is reportedly considering filing Chapter11 bankruptcy protection, according to Reuters.    Founded in 1960, Gander Mountain specializes in fishing, camping and hunting gear and accessories, and bills itself as “America’s firearms superstore.”   

The ever-expanding Dollar General has entered its 44th state.   The discounter opened a store in Hankinson, North Dakota. The company plans to open six additional locations in the state through spring 2017.   

H&M is expanding one of its lesser-known banners with two high-profile locations.   The retailer plans to open a Weekday store on Regent Street in London, and also one in Paris, according to numerous British reports. Both locations are expected to open this summer.    The brand, known for its denim offerings and minimalist basics, currently operates some 27 stores in Europe, but this will be its first in the United Kingdom and France.  

Whole Foods Market is feeling the impact of increased competition by mainstream supermarkets.   The retailer is slowing down its rate of opening new stores, reported the Austin Business Journal, and no longer has a goal of 1,200-plus stores.
