  • Macy's snags big name Italian designer for capsule collection

    NEW YORK — Macy’s announced Giambattista Valli as the fourth designer in its collaboration series to create a capsule collection for the retailer’s fashion “Impulse” department later this fall. Known for extravagant designs and great party dresses, the collection will be Valli’s first foray into affordable fashion, the company reported.

  • New survey sheds light on QR code use

    RESTON, Va. — About 6.2% of 14 million mobile phone users have scanned a quick response or bar code on their mobile device, according to a new ComScore survey.

    Among 14,452 users surveyed during the month of June that have scanned a QR or bar code, 58% of them scanned a code at home, while 39.4% and 24.5% of respondents have scanned codes at a retail store or grocery store, respectively. As far as what they scanned, 49.4% said they scanned a QR or bar code found in a newspaper or magazine, while 35.3% scanned product packaging.

  • Asda customers show off real beauty

    LONDON — Real customers from Walmart's Asda division will be a part of Dove's billboard advertising campaign. 

    Ten models were chosen as the winners of a competition that ran through Asda earlier this year. Winners were treated to a makeover, colour consultation and professional hair styling before they stepped in front of the camera. George, Asda's clothing division, provided the attire for the shoot. 

     

     

  • Zale and Vera Wang team up for jewelry line

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. and designer Vera Wang announced they are teaming up on an exclusive line of diamond bridal jewelry.

    The new Vera Wang Love collection will include diamond engagement rings, matching wedding bands and solitaire bridal jewelry. Each ring will have the Vera Wang Love logo, and every engagement ring will include a blue sapphire.

    The collection will be sold only at Zale stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The jewelry will be in United States and Puerto Rico stores in October.

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy officially has announced the launch of its exclusive beauty collection, Nuance Salma Hayek, developed in partnership with actress Salma Hayek.

    The collection is comprised of more than 100 products within four categories — skin care, cosmetics, hair care and body — and is available only at CVS/pharmacy locations nationwide and online at CVS.com/NuanceSalmaHayek. Prices range between $2.99 and $19.99.

  • McDonald’s sales up 5.1% in July

    Oakbrook, Ill. -- McDonald's Corp. said Monday that its global same-store sales climbed 5.1% in July, buoyed by ongoing strength abroad and sales of its McCafe beverage and staples such as Chicken McNuggets.

    By segment, same-store sales rose 5.3% in Europe. The Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa experienced a 4% gain, while the United States posted a 4.4% increase.

    Last month McDonald's reported a 15% increase in second-quarter net income as it continued to entice customers to buy new menu items.
