  • Columbia Sportswear opens store dedicated to performance fishing gear

    Alpharetta, Ga. -- Columbia Sportswear Company opened its first-ever store dedicated to its performance fishing gear (PFG) at the Avalon Mall in Alpharetta, Ga. Columbia’s PFG collection is inspired by the performance, style and comfort needs of professional and recreational anglers of all ages.   The 3,176-sq.-ft. store has a clean design, boutique feel and digital integration that includes an interactive knot-tying station.

    Office products are getting a stylish makeover at Staples with two designer-driven collections arriving mid-November.  “Style at Staples” is the name of a new assortment that features the new designs by Cynthia Rowley and British stationary brand Paperhouse.

  • LEDs Offer Enhanced Color Tuning

     

    Retailers are well aware that good lighting is critical to visually rendering and calling attention to merchandise, including the role of color rendering. Light is made up of colors. For us to see an object as blue, that color must be present in the object and the light itself.

    Most electric white-light sources don’t produce light with a balanced color spectrum, however. They’re manufactured with varying relative intensities of colors. This choice provides control of color appearance of the light source and how objects in the space appear.

  • New York & Company makes traffic investment

    New York & Company has devised an interesting sweepstakes-based approach to ensure customers are lined up when its stores open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

    The operator of more than 500 stores said the first 200 shoppers to enter its stores beginning at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving will be entered to win $100,000 in the company’s first ever Win Big in New York sweepstakes. In addition to the $100,000 grand prize winner, each store will also have one $500 prize winner.

    Increasingly, more and more stores are utilizing flat-panel screens for digital messaging and customer engagement. Such initiatives are being advanced by a wide range of departments, from marketing to technology.  And they are referred to by a variety of names, including digital place-based media, retail media, dynamic signage, location-based digital display and enterprise media (the term digital signage is a bit dated.)   

  • Brixmor completes nine small-shop leases at Villa Monaco

    Denver -- Brixmor Property Group announced it has added nine new small-shop leases at Villa Monaco, dramatically improving the center's occupancy, enhancing the neighborhood center's merchandising mix and strengthening its position in the Denver market.  
  • FedEx Office expands print offering

    Dallas -- FedEx Office is collaborating with marketing execution firm InnerWorkings Inc. to expand the range of professional print products through FedEx Office retail locations. By combining FedEx Office printing & logistics capabilities with InnerWorkings’ streamlined production platform, the retailer will be able to offer printed items such as signs and banners, flyers, posters, brochures, displays and branded merchandise.  
  • Dunkin Donuts to open at Westgate Shopping Center

    Portland, Me. -- Charter Realty and Development announced that it has leased space to Dunkin Donuts at Westgate Shopping Center, located in Portland, Me.  Dunkin Donuts took 2,474 sq. ft. and will be joining Shaw’s, CVS, Anytime Fitness, Bank of America, TD Bank North and Advance Auto Parts.
