  • Lowe's to donate $50K to winner of Facebook design contest

    MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe's is asking its Facebook fans to vote on their favorite design in the 2012 Lowe’s Designer Challenge and help one of the nation's top lifestyle experts win $50,000 for the charity of their choice. Elaine Griffin, Danny Seo and Marcela Valladolid designed spring vignettes using Lowe’s latest line of outdoor living products for spring and summer entertaining.

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears is encouraging customer feedback for the products it sells by offering shoppers the chance to vote for their favorite participating charity every time they post a product review. Through its "Love/Hate: Share Your Thoughts, Send Some Love" project, Sears is offering customers the chance to share their opinion -- good or bad -- on products and in return vote for one of four charities to receive a grand prize of $100,000.   • Sam Walton display recieves $1 million for renovation

    Walmart and the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation have teamed up to donate $1 million to fund the renovation and expansion of the current Sam M. Walton College of Business display, honoring Walmart’s founder, Sam Walton. Each organization donated $500,000 to update the display in the Business Administration Building on the University of Arkansas campus.

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion announced the results of its two-week Hunger Has a Cure campaign.

    The campaign, which ran April 4 to April 17, raised more than $500,000, which will support Feeding America's network of local food banks. Feeding America will use the funds to provide 3.7 million meals to those in need. As part of the campaign, customers were given the opportunity to donate $1, $3 or any other amount of their choice at checkout.

  • Sam's Club invests big in small business

    Washington, D.C. — Sam's Club has pledged more than $2 million in donations to nonprofits supporting small business growth. The announcement was made by Sam's Club president and CEO Rosalind Brewer.

    "At Sam’s Club our small business owners are our partners, and we want to put our money where our mission is — which is to be agents for and support our members and the small business community," said Brewer, addressing guests at the Dream Big Small Business of the Year awards luncheon at the Shoreham Hotel.
