  • Target gets an A+ for new deal with Aldo

    Target is teaming up with Canadian footwear chain Aldo on a new range of shoes and accessories, according to a report from Footwear News.

    The publication says the new collection will be called A+, is inspired by the Aldo brand, and will launch at all Target stores this month. 

    In addition to partnerships with Stride Rite and Steve Madden, the publication says Target will continue to explore other shoe partnerships.

    Aldo Group operates 1,900 stores in 94 countries. 

  • At Hhgregg, it's not too early for holiday hiring

    Hhgregg says it is trying to get ahead of an ever-earlier holiday shopping season by starting to hire seasonal employees now.

    The retailer plans to hire more than 550 full-time and part-time in-store sales associates. As the holiday shopping season continues to tiptoe earlier into the calendar year, Hhgregg is looking to have their stores fully staffed and associates trained and ready to greet shoppers getting a jump on the holiday rush.

  • Staples debuts first-of-its-kind online store selling crowdfunded products

    Framingham, Mass. -- Staples has opened an online store whose products were determined by crowdfunding.

    The winners of the chain’s inaugural Crowd2Shelf Contest are being featured on Staples’ new entrepreneurial store at Staples.com/fundable. The debut of the online store marks the first time a retailer has used crowdfunding to determine market demand and social support in choosing products to carry.

  • Dollar General gets serious about beauty

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General is upping its commitment to beauty with an expanded lineup of products and an in-store beauty magazine.

    The retailer presented its inaugural A Day of Beauty event at the Music City Center, Davidson Ballroom, in downtown Nashville, on Aug. 8.

  • Macy's to host fashion week of its own

    With New York Fashion Week right around the corner, Macy's is planning a catwalk show of its own to close out the biggest fashion week of the year.

    The retailer announced that it will host “Macy’s Presents Fashion’s Front Row” on Sept. 17 in New York City, featuring celebrities, musical acts and a runway show. 

  • Back-to-school shoppers not in a hurry

    Chicago -- Shoppers are making retailers wait for the back-to-school rush.

    The majority (65%) of shoppers will start back-to-school shopping in the next few weeks, according to JLL’s Back-to-School Survey, which also revealed that 88% of shoppers will shop at a brick-and-mortar store for either school supplies or clothing, placing minimal online orders for merchandise.

    Dollar General is upping its commitment to beauty with an expanded lineup of products and an in-store beauty magazine.

  • Coming soon to Target: Gender-free signage

    Minneapolis -- Parents and others shopping for toys at Target will no longer be offered product suggestions based on gender.

    The retailer announced it plans to start removing gender-based signage in several departments, including toys, bedding and entertainment. Target said it made the decision after feedback and suggestions from customers.
