  • Cypress Equities acquires Minnesota retail center

    Dallas — Cypress Equities has acquired Eden Prairie Center in Eden Prairie, Minn., an upscale suburb of Minneapolis. The transaction was carried out by a fund managed by Cypress’ real estate investment management group. Eden Prairie Center is a 1.1-million-sq.-ft., two-level, enclosed shopping center. The mall features more than 100 shops and restaurants. Annual shopper visits exceed 12 million.

  • NRF: Retailers Add 15,200 Jobs in September

    Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation calculated retail industry job gains at 15,200 in September, and 289,000 jobs year-over-year, a 2.4% increase over the same month last year and 2.0% higher than total private sector jobs over the past year.

  • America’s Research Group: Economic hardships affect holiday shopping

    Charleston, S.C. – One-third (33%) of U.S. families are making less money as a result of job loss, moving to a part-time job and/or working at a lower-paying job.

    In addition, according to three recent consumer surveys from America’s Research Group (ARG), 40% of parents are trying to save as much money as they can for their children's college education, 38% of families did not take a vacation this year of four days or longer, and 44% of parents will do most of their back-to-school apparel shopping in December when the deals are better.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods opens new Texas store

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods opens a new store in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Nov. 1. The Corpus Christi location will be the retailer's 21st store in the state of Texas and its 549th nationwide.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods opens new Missouri store Nov. 1

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening a new store in Osage Beach, Mo., on Nov. 1. The Osage beach location will be the retailer's 12th store in the state of Missouri and its 551st nationwide.

  • Guitar Center plays new digital tune

    Guitar Center is preparing to unveil a new Serato-branded digital music area in its Brooklyn store location at an all-day red carpet event open to the public on Oct. 24. The new Serato-branded digital music area will offer DJs and aspiring music producers a place to try out the latest products.

    The launch coincides with the expansion of Guitar Center's Music Mentor program, which offers customers free lessons and instruction for top DJ and digital music products, as well as the completion of an extensive renovation to the Brooklyn, N.Y., store on Flatbush Avenue.

  • Kohl’s to open 8 p.m. Thanksgiving; digital efforts include Santa photo op

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Following the lead of rivals Macy’s and J.C. Penney, Kohl’s Department Stores announced it will open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day,  kicking off its Black Friday event earlier than ever.  

    Stores will be open for 28 hours straight – from 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28 through midnight Friday nationwide.
